Hello there again, I know I must be getting annoying with all these questions but I feel like experience is a lot more to be trusted than a box label so I need some input.
Ok, I am going with a 5 channel amp, stats are as follows :
Max power, 2 ohm
200w x 4 + 400w x 1
RMS power, 4 ohm
80w x 4 + 150w x 1
Bridged Power, 4 OHM
400w x 2 + 400w x 1
Signal-to-noise-ratio
>105 dB
THD
0.01%
Ok so with that said, I want some 5x7 - 6x8 component speakers that will operate well with that kind of power on them but at the same time are not going to cost me an arm and a leg. I have been looking at the Alpine S, Alpine R and Inifity Reference .. I "may" be able to spring for Infinity Kappa's but that is pushing my budget to the limit. If you know of what brand and series of speakers that you think will work well with this set up please tell me. Even a sub suggestion for that 5th channel would be helpful.
PS - Looking for sound quality over loudness.

Not an audiophile by any stretch, but I like my Pioneer 4-ways with a Pioneer 200w bridged subwoofer amp on my stock JBL FCU, RCU and 10 Disc CD changer.

co with coax's.
yes i am partial to phoenix gold, but man the rsd component set are unreal, you can pick them up on ebay for $80, you just cant beat them for the price.
hands down they will kill the alpine's and they are on par with the reference series , and in the right set up will be right next to the kapa's.
are you looking for sound quality in the sub? how much space do you have for a sub enclosure, as you should get a sub that will fi the size you need, instead of getting a sub and figurring out how to fit it.
compnents will sound better in coax then a set of 6X9 or the like

personally I am looking for sound quality, I pretty much have the entire trunk to work with if need be. rsd component set? I checked ebay looks like that is a part of Phoenix gold no? Didn't see any speakers in the size im looking for :( . On another thought maybe just going with a bazooka 8" tube and throwing it on that 5th channel and mounting it in the cabin would bring enough bass. I'm just worried about the other speakers overpowering it or it not being able to go the full spectrum of bass like the bigger subs can.

you want your front speakers to blend in with the sub, so if your sub will play up too 60hz you want your front speakers to play from 60hz and up, you dont want a gap in freq. you will notice it.
and as far as a bazzoka tube, i wouldnt do it, better can be had for less.
and yes they are phoenix gold

Give us a price range, and what your ultimate goal is to get out of the setup. We can give better direction with that information.

Ok basically I am down to 2 choices on speakers now after doing some local shopping. Either the Alpine R components or the MB quarts reference components. As far as the Sub goes I am looking for a quality punch sound and not really that real low loudness. I was looking at the Pioneer Premier 8" shallow mount sub but have yet to hear one. Anyone suggest a sub that can handle 150 watt RMS that will produce that punch?

mb quarts over alpine any day, those alpines are such pieces of crap.. I dont know why everyone thinks alpine makes a good coax/component speaker. their subs on the other hand are a different story.

I am quite happy with the Pioneer 200 watt speakers I purchased. I am not into competition or anything, so I don't recognize real quality!
Someone here mentioned some hand made speakers from Human(?).

My single 12" Perfect is quite happy with 300w RMS - plenty hard enough in a sealed enclosure. Everything else is Kappa's, amp is Infinity 6ch.

As much as I love Alpine decks, I'm no fan of their speakers. Alpine was never really known for their speakers. If you're looking for the SQ, definately look into the MB Quarts. The old car audio rule of thumb is "never buy speakers from a head unit manufacturer" (i.e; Alpine, Kenwood, Clarion, Blaupunkt, Pioneer).

JL 8W series. They pack a nice punch and can be custom-mounted and tucked-away in the back of the trunk...

If you can find them check out Toxik Audio SST65C components, $349 for the set and they blow the Type R components as well as a set of Focals we have in our display out of the water for SQ. Set your EQ settings to FLAT and keep loudness off and these speakers just sing.

is a single 12 really that good. i thought about going maybe a nice set of 10's, because i really dont try to beat up the block anymore like in my younger years. and i listen to pretty much anything now. but on those days i wanna rollout and bump the tunes i can. how does anyone feel about 10's worth it. or better to just step up to a 12?

A single ten with a stong amp is good enough for me. I am also an eclectic listener. I have listened to MB Quarts, JL Audio, and Infinity. They were pretty close in sound to me, especially the MB and JL speakers. I ended up using JL Audio VR650CSi front components and a set of cheaper Pioneer 6x9s in the back for filler (no one is really back there) and it came out pretty nice with everything powered by an Eclipse 40wx4 and 120Wx1 5 ch amp. I would like to try Infinity the next time because my friend's reference coaxials sound crisper/cleaner. He does have a 60w per channel amp though.

i have ran some pretty loud setups and i thought when i stepped down to 1 12 i would be loosing alot.
let me tell you i was wrong, no it doesnt get crazy loud like my old set ups did, but it does get nice clear a decientl loudness and the bass is so transient it just goes right thru your bones.
theoretically speaking 1 12 will be able to hit lower notes then the 10 can, thats why people used to run 18's...to hit the real low notes, but speaker technologuy has come along a bit so there is not need to get that big woofer to hit the low notes.
if you want it to sound nice and clear and still be able to get loud when you want it to the only way to go is a big ported box tuned really low with a big port opening.
my box is 3cf has about 50sq inches of port area and is tuned to about 29hz (or there abouts)
50sq is a really big port for 1 12.
i have 1 phoenix gold rsd 12 thats getting about 500rms and it will whale when i want it too. its a very effient sub and sounds great and can be had pretty cheap.
i will put the rsd 12 against any 12 out there and i guarantee it might not beat all of them but let me tell you it will give the best a run for its money.
even in side by side comparisons of the image dynamics 12 idmax the rsd is th3 better woffer, the only area the ID max beat it is in loudness, but still not by much, and remeber the rsd is 1/3 the price.
just remeber guys when choosing a sub make sure you have enough power to run it. actually most experts will tell you to use twice the rated power for the sub, why? so you have more control over the woofer and you can make it sound like you want it to sound

lots of good info here. Anyways little update, its kinda funny you were talking about infinity subs because I have an infinity kappa sub 12" sitting in my room from my old car and a Sony ... yes i know.. but I already have it so might as well use 1600 watt amp to throw at it. So I am going with a 4 channel amp set up for the components. Anywho, I need to know the mounting depth on a 93 mark VIII so I make sure the speaker I choose actually fits.
