You would have to wire a special switch to enable 'stealth mode' like pickups and minivans and police cars have.
Its probably a door ajar (push button on these models?) switch thats faulty if your lights stay on. Or the LCM.

On the 98's the switch is on the door latch assembly, you are probably going to have to remove the interior door panel to clean/repair it, and add a stealth switch, which you can hide in the pocket on the drivers door.
BTW do some testing to determine which door is keeping the lights on. Odds are it is the drivers door, but it could be any one or a problem with the LCM $$$$.

LCM = Lighting Control Module
Your battery saver turns off the lights after 30 minutes.
You can prevent the lights from coming on when you remote open, but you'll have to talk to the electronics wizards for that mod.

We have BREAKING NEWS.....i have info that no one else has or i would have been helped by all you lincoln experts and told this......
well let me tell you the story. today i was at my friends house when my lights inside the car would not turn off like i have mentioned before so then i had all my 3 friends close each door that they where sitting next to and also me. after we closed all doors they wouldnt turn off. so then one my friends said "all cars have a dome switch, even more likely because you drive a lincoln" and im like, "no fool, i asked the people on the internet and theyres like 80,000 people nearly 1000 experts and they said there wasnt so it doesnt have one" so i beleived the forum more then him so he's like pull over and he sat in my seat all of a sudden he started looking around asking what does this button do and the next. and i kept insisting there isnt a button. AND FINALLY he pushed a button one that i have never seen or heard or even knew existed before, he close the door while all the lights where still on, pressed the button and....to my amazement they turned ON and OFF at every push he did.....
after that i just kept playing with the button....... SO ALL LINCOLN TOWN CAR PEOPLE MAKE IT A STICKY OR put it in your heads so when someone asks you, you can help them
the button is the turner on the left side where you can either turn on the lights or the highbeams instead of turning it PRESS IT and thats your dome button see i had to come and tell everyone at 1AM because of how excited i am on finding a button yall didnt know abouti hope tomorrow in the morning i hear people say WOW i didnt KNOW THAT!!!! cause it would suck if you guys did know that and didnt tell me.......so WHOO WHOO im happy i dont have to worry about my battery getting wasted as i would always think......
another win for us towncar owners no $$$$ to waste for a faulty driver door.....

Uh, I don't want to burst your bubble, but some of the replies above were to keep the lights from coming ON when you open the door.
The LCM was a real possiblity had it not been as simple as you having pushed in on the dome switch without knowing you did :D

Well you should look at your car more carefully, or read the owners manual, because you are talking about the switch that says push to turn on the lights. :)
Which is not related at all to "Hey how do i get my lights from turning on whenever i open the door? is there a dome switch.....like my friends sierra that when he pushes it, it cuts out all the lights inside." that you asked in the first post.

There have been many posts concerning people who had interior lights that did not turn OFF when the doors were all closed. The battery saver then comes into use, after 30 minutes or one hour depending on the model year. The advice given was correct for your question of how to keep the lights from COMING ON when you opened the door. We are not ignorant of the switch you 'discovered.' Simply, you didn't get the answer you were looking for because you asked the wrong question. We all do that sometimes... So, enough said about it, let's go on to the next one...

I never said it's related to that question which is why i asked 2, one question was to keep them off permanently like you guys said (stealth mode,) and that sir was related ("Hey how do i get my lights from turning on whenever i open the door? is there a dome switch.") The other question i asked was one that you overlooked when writing that quoted message, ("also sometimes all my lights in the car stay on and wont turn off sometimes they will be on for 30 mins and other times just a few minutes. whats wrong here?") If i would have known or been told that when you push the button the lights stay on regardless of the doors opened or closed also when pushed again they turn off, then i wouldnt have been here asking you. Im sorry that i didnt know about this button and i couldnt see, or read it, since i been with this car for about 2 months i cant possibly be an expert on lincoln town cars and i apologize for that. For that reason i come here to this forum and ask questions that most of you know, but because im not an expert on these cars i wouldnt know (thats why this site is here, to help right? or is it just for experts to congregate and us newbie's to stay behind) but since i seem to be the laughing stock, then i really dont feel like asking questions anymore, because us people that dont know what our cars can do will have to walk trough the emberassment of being the newbie and having to ask experts that will poke fun of you just to know what a car can do.
