This morning, Lincoln released an overview of the forthcoming MKS to dealers. There are plenty of features to discuss, but the most overwhelmingly important piece of info is this:

The MKS will be powered by a 315 horsepower V8, which will put power to all four wheels via Ford's new 6-speed automatic.

Funny, I just got a brochure in last night - I wonder what they said about it in there?

"Ford brass came to the realization that V6 power in their flagship sedan was not a prime selling point."
Well, d'uh.

What, FORD came to there senses! A V8 in their luxury vehicle? What were they thinking... I wonder what vehicle it came from and how they de-tuned it. I think you can get a cheapie Chevy Impala with a 300+ HP V8 for a song now-a-days.

Booooo! If the V8 is the "upgrade" option then it needs to be humming a little more than 315hp to hang with the big boys of today. At least the realized the direction they need to head.

If that Turbo V6 comes into production, I'll actually be upset it isn't in the MKS. These new age turbo motors are absolute monsters, and are just a chip away from 400+hp.

Maybe they'll put the turbo V6 in the MKZ and MKX. That would kick ass.

You never stop dreaming about Ford coming to reality, do you brotha?

How about a 500 HP pushrod V8 like in a Corvette -or- Cadillac? They have that today. And those vehicles get decent fuel economy. And Ford does have a 500HP+ supercharged V8 already in production...

How about a realistic car that gets good economy that people would actually buy, such a diesel powered Panther?

There's a 3.6L Turbo Diesel F150 and Expedition on its way, supposedly. That's some seriously good news. Maybe it'll show up in a panther come 2009, maybe!

Sounds safer than your "pie-in-the-sky" investment technique of Ford. :p I really do hope that they pull out of this nose-dive...I just don't know if they have the "faith" of the consumer to back them at this point.

Awesome! 315HP is good enough in my book!

Hmm...the Blogosphere isn't sure who to believe, turns out the V8 might be a mistake.

Its very possible the dealer's got out-of-date information, and Ford is still planning on a V6 for the MKS. My dealer didn't believe me when I said the Town Car wasn't going away in 2007, they never got that info!

So what you are saying is that you are no different than the rest of the press...we should just stop listening to you. :p

That's right; you just report to the public about cars. :p

Hmm, so as of yet there's a twin turbo V6 in the works, a 3.7 Duratec, and the Yamaha V8 has risen from the ashes. And nobody has any idea what's going into the MKS.

Either Ford is really clueless on this one, or they're doing a completely kick-butt job of keeping it a secret until they're good and ready to tell us.

Odds are its gonna be a V6, the dealer's just had out-of-date info.

Ford doesn't have the money to pay Yamaha's licensing fees for that motor, the turbo is still up in the air.

I'll bet you that Lincoln does get the motor!!

Of course, that's just the little kid in me, I really want to buy the MKS in a few year - and the v8 is a make it or break it deal for me. :(

Not for me. I know the boosted 3.7L will easily make 400+hp with exhaust and a chip. That's just sick.

Well, they've got step one down. Step two is to offer the MKS with all three motors and let the customer pick. Pro & I can get our boosted V6s, Dusty can get his V8, and all the cheapos out there who want a Lincoln can get the N/A V6.

luvmylinc, no truth to that rumor. Lincoln's getting back into cars and staying there. Gas is going to become too much of an issue to limit themselves to the absurd SUV market.

Add that to the long list of the "stupidest things" Ford has already done and the collection becomes complete.

Now we have word of a fairly respectable car, how about ditching the alphabet soup names? I mean come on there's all these cars that got them where they are(were) today(not so much today, maybe 5-10 yrs ago) and they discontinued 90% of them.
Why did they change the name of the Blackwood? I liked that, I wanted one. The Mark L(light)T(truck)???, wow thats original and took all of half a second of actual thought to come up with. You know next year it'll be shortened to the MKLT(followed by the navi, MKN) to save $$$ on the little plastic letters. I think that's it!!!! That's why they have the alphabet soup names. 3 letters is about half as expensive as 6 or more. ...start sarcasm...New industry wide marketing idea, 2 letter names. For first letter Cars get C, trucks get T SUV's get S and so on. Second "letter" is a number 1-9.
I'm applying as an executive at ford. now, I have no qualifications(at all, lol), but I think I can do better than anyone there now...end sarcasm...

The MKS looks very interesting to me.(turbo v6 or v8, which ever has better economy) Lets just hope the name doesn't stick.

Actually they didn't change the name. The Blackwood was only made for a couple years, then there were several years in between before the Mark LT came to market.

The local Ford dealer has never been informed of the St Paul plant closing.
when asked he said "I know nothing of the sort."
The Star Tribune has articles off and on about how people are starting on bidding on the Ford owned power turbine that powers the soon to be closed plant.
Hell Ford should keep the turbine operational and sell the power. at least then it will have some income.
