Got a phone call from my wife today saying she "tapped" the garage door while backing out. Well it was a good tap because the mirror housing is pretty much ripped off and the mirror was broken. So I took it off and I'm off to the dealer tommorrow to get a new one....can't wait to find out how much it costs

Ouch. I hope they're cheaper than Mark VIII mirrors!

I'd bet 300 unpainted and maybe 400 if it was an auto-dimming mirror. You might also want to check out an online parts dealer like Five Star Ford, Fast parts Network, or the like.

The Mark VII Club has meets around New England an in Western MA. Check us out at www.thelincolnmarkviiclub.org if you're interested in attending a meet.

If its a lot more than a Fusion mirror (which I think is the same) you can probably get a Fusion part and put the Zephyr's chrome accent on it. But that is an auto dimming mirror, judging by the electrical harness on it.

Just thinking out loud. Good luck man! :)

Oh damn! They even had the sense to make the mirros on my old TC foldable, why not a Zeph!?

Definitively check out www.fordparts-fordparts-fordparts.com before the dealer!

See the yellowy coloration of the glass? That's the charge-sensitive dimming fluid in an auto-dim mirror. A guy I know had one on his Regal that got shattered and it had the same stuff in it. The junkyard wanted $250, just for the glass.

Thanks for the help guys.....fordparts doesn't have a listing for the Zephyr, now I feel like a black sheep. Looks like she'll be parking in the driveway from now on .

Thanks for the link Nick, I'll look it up, you live right around the corner.

Surprisingly the dealer quoted me for the whole mirror at $224, which is about half of what I was expecting to pay. According to the parts guy the Zephyrs mirrors arent painted but just black plastic with the chrome cap (which I already knew and the cap comes right off and isnt broken) and if it was painted it would cost about $450 painted. Thank God for cheap plastic :)

Yep, I didn't think so, but he can get any FLM part if you email him. He is a member here actually. Good luck, even $225 aint bad.

Thank God you can replace the mirror on your own. Bertera would probably tack another $70-$100 on that bill.

Is that mirror also heated?

Nice price. I was shocked when it only took $35 to replace the broken mirror on a Ford Fusion. Thank goodness for cheap stuff!

Thats actually where I went...not much to pick from around here. Although I will say I never had a problem with them and they are actually very nice.

Yes it is heated. But the heat looks like it just comes from a heat duct on the side of the dash, could be wrong but thats what it looks like.

Only one problem, the mirror didn't come with the chrome cap and the one off the broken would not come off, so I need to order one of those now.....that part will probably be 250$!!!!! :)

The mirror's heat comes from a resistor bed inside the glass - that's what the wires are for coming from the mirror.

Can you see how the chrome attaches to the new one? Maybe you can cut the old mirror in a few places to pop the chrome out.

Honestly I tried prying it off, it just looked like it snapped in and well it broke........guess I should have tried some finesse  .

It happens. Usually you don't make the same mistake twice.

Hey, if you can post a pic of the black assembly and the chrome part and show how they go together, this might help someone in the future. It would make a great first TECH article for the Zephyr people. ;)

Darn I already reassembled it and put it back on the car. I finally got the chrome piece off the old mirror it took quite a bit of force and I broke a few clips off...it is some low grade plastic (but in its defense its probably not made to come off). I went to the dealer yesterday to order a new one, keep in mind the complete mirror was 224, they wanted 129$ for one chrome cap!!!!!! Its not even brushed aluminum, but plastic. So I ordered it anyways, but then I told my wife and she had a bird so I tried putting the old cap on the new mirror and it snapped in snug eventhough a few snaps were missing, so I returned the new cap for a refund. It has a few minor scratches and a screw driver mark where it was pried ;) . Just wasn't worth 129$. I was just glad I could do this myself and not pay through the nose for the dealer to do it. Thanks for any/all help :)

p.s. I saw my wife drive into the garage today...theres a good chance this might happen again!

I am the kind of jerk that would laminate the reciepts and thumbtack them to the wall in front of the car.

LOL I used to be like that when I was younger, but stuff like this doesn't bother me at all....sh*t happens. My wife said she was surprised I didn't yell (which I rarely do)...no point nothing can be done about it now. Just get it fixed, pay the bill and be done with it.

Although the picture in the first post is now the screensaver on the computer LOL

Bertera hasn't been too bad to me. They did try and talk us into trading in our '85 Continental when it had a few problems for a used Sable. While nice I'm sure, I don't think it'd have the same pizazz.

Wow, at these prices it is a wonder how there are any mirrors NOT stolen:rolleyes:
