That would likely be the AC vacuum system releasing. Are you having any issues with the system right now?

Probably a small vacuum leak in the climate control system. It should hold longer than that. If you aren't having problems with the climate control system, I wouldn't worry too much about it, but if you're having problems wit h temperature changing, or the vents flipping to defrost, etc, then start leak checking.

Yeah, Gadget restated what I meant. The ACC has its guts behind the glove box. When it starts leaking vacuum, all sorts of weird things happen. The air doesn't go where you have it set, and the temperature will not be selectable. Fortunatly, if it does start giving you problems, Gadget is an expert and will be able to get you on the fast track to repair!

had my tc 11 years now and i can confidently tell you that the "thump" (perfect description of the sound), is the heat duct vent closing shut. if you look under the glove box you will see the mechanism that opens and closes the ducts. it happens "after" you shut off the car. nothing to worry about. i would keep that mechanism lubed though. shoot some oil on the moving parts rather than have it dry and open for moisture and rust/corrosion.

What do you mean should hold longer then that? the heater doesnt work right but the ac is fine they said it would cost me $500 bucks or so to fix it so they by past the swith board or something.

Do you just not get any heat? If so, try unplugging the vacuum line behind the glove box that goes into the gold canister. If you get full heat at that point, then the temperature sensor in the cabin is gone. Not a terribly hard job to replace it, but you can have full heat by unplugging that line and just don't worry about the sensor.

i dont know the name of the part, but if you look up under your glove box you will see a metal rod going to a spring like mechanism. the metal rod comes, i think, from the firewall area, towards the front corner. you cant miss the part if you get your head under there. lube the spring like area that the rod connects to.

Open the glovebox door and press the little release tabs at the top corners so it opens all the way past the stops. locate the clear plastic vacuum line that should be visible in there and pull it off. If you get heat, the interior temperature sensor is bad, and needs replacing. Its under the dash pad above the glove box and costs about $50 for a new one.
