today my speedometer in the dash went to zero, this is a on going problem, when i first got the car 2 years ago,i had the same problem so the guy replaced the speed sensor,a month later it went again, now the guy says its the wire harness ( yeah right ) a month later it went again so i brought it to someone else and he replaced the plastic gear under the sensor, well that lasted for 10 months until now,any ideas on whats going on ? cant drive the car now because it controls the tranny,so now the plastic gear was replaced and the sensor was replaced, should i look for a bad connection, broken wire, after the sensor ,where does the wire go ?.........................................thanks

that speedo sensor signal goes to just about every system in the car, except maybe the radio...
no kidding.. EEC (which controls engine/trans), dash (for speedo/odo and other stuff), Air suspension computer, to the variable power assist unit (if equipped, I believe almost all had it), cruise control (if your year is seperate from EEC), and maybe a few others.
it has been mentioned in another thread about the possiblity of some ATF on the connector causing problems too.

I am wondering if the drive gear is messed up?
The gear on the speed sensor is the driven gear; the one inside the tranny is the drive gear,

I don't think your mechanic installed the sensor/drive gear properly. And the harness could have ATF on it too.

That's not a very common thing to happen...but I guess stranger things have happened.
