Bumped into a web site for this chrome paint system. 3 step process. base coat, chrome paint (supposedly actual metal/chrome in fine particles mixed in with the paint), and then clear coat finish over the chrome.
webite: www.alsacorp.com
$40. per spray can for each step 400 ml cans. on line videos to look at. Supposedly "nail hard" finish and cant tell the difference from real chrome?
Anyhow, looking for opinions here or if anyone has ever tried this stuff before. It is different than the regular fake chrome paint that has been on the market. I think the key here is that you actually are spraying out chrome/metal. Have some parts I want chromed. side mirrors, a bumper, etc...
Let me know what you all think!
Thanks

No way it shines like chrome. Chrome is a plating, you can't paint something and get a shine like plated metal.

I'm a little hesitant to think it'll look like new as well, but maybe it will. Sometimes you can find replacement aftermarket bumpers on ebay, but most of the rest of the stuff, no dice. I'd love to have nice new shiny chrome parts but I can't afford to have them dipped.

There is actually a place by me in Addison Il called (Certi Fit) and they do have after market bumpers among other parts. A couple years ago they wanted $100. for a bumper which isnt too bad. but...it is a thinner metal. my other motive for this chrome system, besides the lincoln is, for a 66 chevy impala i just picked up and it needs much rechroming...
it seems like you can just sand the metal clean and get rid of the pits yourself and spray with their primer and then the chrome and then a clear coat...

Did you check out their project page? I have seen their mercedes a few times and it's not chrome, but it's the closest thing to it i've seen.

It's not chrome plating, its chrome paint. Basically it comes down to having silver paint with chrome in it. Just like the shiny flaky stuff (cant think of what it's called) that's in your paint when you buy a new car.

Anyway, you really need to send those parts off to a chrome plating facility, one that does it right. If you want a new bumper though, I know a few websites you can get some of the parts brand new.

I know there is nothing like getting a peice chromed by dipping into the real thing....it know this is a substitute, but also much less effort than removing a mirror or door handle or bumper, etc and then send it out. With this spray you can leave the part on and work with it. Maybe I'll try the small demo can they sell to see how it works out.
Still looking for anyone with first hand experience though, who has actually used it!
Thanks

Well, that is a positive note...at least "close to chrome"... I also imagine with a couple coats of their clearcoat over it, it may even last a while...

I tried out the "Chrome Paint System" and after some trial and error I got an innder door handle from my 66 impala posted sitting right next to a real piece of chrome. You will clearly see the difference. The pic of the handle is a bit brighter in person and not as bronze looking but more like aluminum or stainless/grey like. Not at all like chrome.
This expensive system, as you will see, did not work out, at least for me and I followed the instructions to the letter. The handle was all pitted to start with, so I did a lot of prep work first.
If the pic doesnt first come out, have patience with me and I will try till I get it out here for you all. It may even end up in another reply after this one.http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p99/tomkeaton/notchrome.jpg

Just what I feared. Since it's really nickel under the chrome plating that really gives it its shine, I was pretty sure chrome paint wouldn't look too shiny.
