yay technology. When we have to have instructions on toothpicks, and cars that park themselves, clearly there is much that is wrong in the world.
And that Hummer one is funny. Not that I'm surprised though, take a full size Chevy truck, and build a body on it that looks somewhat like a military vehicle, and you end up with something no more capable than the garden variety pickup it was based on, but that people think is unstoppable.

Absurd. Toyota has WAY too much money to burn. They should stick with perfecting hybrids (i.e., pay attention to what these guys (http://www.calcars.org/) have to say). Still, there are a lot of folks out there that would waste an extra 10 g's for that useless feature just to say they have it. Is it just me, or does an LS460 look just a tad too much like a Camry? And what's up with that standard Japanese cheap looking digital clock on the dash? I'd expect more for the money these things cost. Lexus may otherwise remain 10 feet tall and bulletproof, but their styling is as always lagging WAY behind the Germans in cool factor (especially BMW).

Yeah, I find it amusing how everyone talks about Ford and badge engineering when Toyota is just as bad (or worse?).

This makes the Vic and TC look like distant relatives.
Besides the doors, what exterior sheet metal do the Vic and TC have in common?
Far less than the Toyota twins.

The bodies and styling are very similar, but the big difference 'tween the LS460 and the Camry is that the Lexus is RWD, thus the 2 cars might as well be from a different planet. In this respect, the TC, GM, and Vic are identical, so Ford is really more guilty of re-badging. Ford re-badges by changing outward appearances, and Toyota re-badges by changing the drive-line. It would still be interesting to see how many non-drive-line components would swap between the Lex and the Yo. :)

Actually as far as I'm aware, not even the doors are the same on a Vic and a TC, but the chassis is darn near identical. Maybe the newest models share a front door, I don't know. The only real difference is that the TC has about 3" more wheelbase, so the frame is longer and the rear floorpan area is larger. Nothing of substance otherwise is different. This is why police car suspension parts fit perfectly on a Towncar, so basicly a $43,000 Towncar is identical in all practical respects to the beat up taxi cab or patrol car you see riding around.

Yeah, from a platform standpoint.
The ES and Camry (as pictured above) look comparable to a Vic-GM badge job.
IMO the TC is more than an emblem, headlights, and grill.
I see different fenders, door cladding, hood, deckled, sail panels, front and rear bumpers, smaller rear glass enclosure, door panels, seats, and a (slightly) different dash.

The ES and TC are BOTH well badge engineered. Both have unique sheetmetal and interiors.
Problem is, the MKZ, MKX and Mark LT are poorly badge engineered. Plenty of sheetmetal and glass interchange.
And the Mark LT is the king of badge engineering. The Navigator isn't too bad.

To those commenting on the Lexus's apperance. You should know it was highly influenced by aerodynamics. To make the queitest car possible, you have to cut wind resistance. I believe the Lexus is still the champion in both interior noise, and aero drag. Lexus LS460 has a drag coefficient of .26, exact same as the hideous Prius, and only .01 higher than the Insight.
If I could afford one, I'd definetly buy a lexus

I say forget Lexus. I'd fall asleep driving it because the styling is so boring and sterile, plus I actually like to hear my engine work thankyaverymuch. If the cards fall right, I'll be set to lease a M-B C280 this year.
Besides, what kind of heritage does Lexus have? None if I recall. They popped up in '89; no racing pedigree, no rich history of luxury vehicles, no interesting character at all. And as Automobile magazine once said: You feel like you've arrived, but no one will notice. I'd spend my $60k+ on a CLS550.

Lexus is the only car I've yet driven that I came away from feeling like I'd just driven a doctor's office on wheels. . . But to each their own.

After watching this, it got me wondering just how hard it is to work this system. I found a video of it being performed by some one with more than a Kindergarden education level, and found it to be quite simple (2 buttons were pressed)
http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/clips/lexus-self-parking-car-video-and-review-196551.php
The only time I could see using this system was if you broke your neck, or if your like me and to lazy to scrape the rear windshield.

Ideally, you clean them off haha, but they are sonar so, they can go through snow, light dirt, Then again, when was the last time you saw a dirty, snow covered lexus LS460? haha, the biggest problem would be if the camera some how got dirty, then You'd have difficulty seeing if a person ran between you. Unless your smart and look back. The other nice thing, this car will stay cleaner than the average car due to it's "clean" aerodynamics sucking less grime from the roads surface

Hi Red91SiT,
I see that you have never driven the coal haul ways of southern West Virginia. It redefines dirty. Nothing on the car escapes the filthy, black grime. :(

You are correct, I have a few motorcycler stories about these lands haha. When they get to the Hotel, the attendant assumes they are miners haha.

And up util recently all Lexus did for the style of their LS was COPY the mid 90s S-Class, the LS430 Sitting next toa a 98 MB could be mistaked, BUT the lexus was quieter.
