Did the 88 TC come with a keyless remote? The one I recently purchased did not and was wondering if I get a FOB, will it program to the keyless entry pad?
Thx to everyone on the lock relay info too.

Hi Chevdually
Town Cars didn't get factory remote keyless entry until 1993 any with one before that are aftermarket and that includes Ford ones fitted by the dealer.
Ever had deja vu? :)

From what I know you cannot really get it to interact well with our keypad system. I have an aftermarket RKE and I just have it wired directly to the door lock wires in my '87. It works just like the switch on the doors. It won't disarm the alarm, but it will arm it if you use the lock function with the door still open. Strange system indeed. If anyone knows how to hook this in in a better way, I'd love to hear it.

Hi Joedogg
You should be able to intergrate your aftermarket RKE with the factory alarm/keyless system, you probably need to use a relay on one of the RKE outputs to swicth the factory alarm.
There is a swicth on each front door lock cylinder that needs to be grounded to dis-arm the factory alarm.
I suspect your RKE will arm the system but not dis-arm it because of the way you wired it into the door locks, you are not tripping the dis-arm relay when unlocking the doors.

Thats exactly why. Its just wired as if it were internal door lock button. The wire to disarm is on the actual lock cyl? I'll check it out, any idea what color the wire is?

Hi Joedogg
Yep and Dark Green/Purple, you should be able to find it going into the door not just at the lock cylinder.

I have always wondered if 80's Towncars came with keyless entry. My manual came with a pamphlet saying it did. The copyright was march 1988 and it even shows pictures of what the keyfob looks like. I don't have it nor can I find one or anybody that knows of one. I took pictures, but this is the best they came out. Please give me your opinions Dereck, you seem to know way more than me.

Thats weird! I was under the impression that in the 80's, keyless entry meant the keypad on the door.

Thats what i thought too. I can't find one ANYWHERE. No one even knows what im talking about. I was under the impression about them starting in 93 also, because that is the earliest I could find for a keyfob.

There is the possibility this was something sold in the parts department you could have installed at the dealership... not factory installed.
BTW.. why are you looking so hard for this thing?

Hi Dibly74
Yes you could get a keyfob remote entry on an 88 Town Car from Ford but it was dealer fitted as an "aftermarket" option, there is/was a guy here that had one fited to his TC but they seem extremely rare.
As I said before factory fitted keyfob remote didn't arrive on a TC until 93.
