How far does the engine have to be moved to clear the frame to get the oil pan off? Or can I take the oil pan off without moving the engine? I have to fix the gasket on the timing chain cover, So I thought I'd fix the oil pan too. Because the oil pan has a rust hole in it.I lose about a quart of oil a week.

You can do it, but its a pain. The engine mounts need to come undone, and you have to jack the motor up pretty much as far as it will go. You may need to disconnect the fuel lines at either side of the front of the motor. There is a spring lock connector near the frame rail where the plastic line connects to the metal lines running up the front of the motor. Drop the pan, and reach inside to disconnect the pickup. Once thats unbolted, you should be able to sneak the pan out of there, but it will be tight. I would advise installing a new oil pump while you're in there, and use a one piece oil pan gasket when installing the new pan.

I have most of the front of the engine taken apart to work on the timing chain cover, should I do it then? where do I put the jack to lift the engine I dont have a engine hoist.

hmmm, no engine hoist, that might be difficult. Nowhere to really put the jack since the pan is going to be coming off, and if you put it under the balancer it will be directly in the way. Not really sure what to suggest there.
