For Christmas my wife bought me a nice CD player to replace my factory cass player on my 95. I have swapped out many stereos in my time, and went out and bought the face plate and wire kit to make it easier. I dont have the bose system so i thought I didnt have a amp. Anyways I couldnt get the wire adapter to match up besides the power, 1 out of 3 pin conectors matched up. So I figured the other tubed wires had the speaker wires in it and cut the connectors off to splice in it. :achoo:

To make 2 hours story short I found out I have a fac amp (mounted on the right hand side of the trunk) and I have cut the feeds to it behind the radio . I might be able to splice back into it for the factory radio but I really would like to install my new CD player, is there anyway around this, do I need to splice and extend all the speaker wires from the trunk? I hope not. Anybody else ever have this problem.

I'm going to move this to the audio section. I am in favor of NOT snipping off wire connectors. There are plenty of adapters to bypass the factory RCU (Rear Control Unit). Crutchfield, Best Buy, Circuit City all carry them. Walmart has some infrequently, also.

Most installers run new speaker wires for these setups. The actual tuner and amps are in the trunk, leaving the "head unit" as basically a control panel in front. There are two signal level pair used for the cassette input.

I agree the kit from Crutchfield includes a speaker extension cable that avoids splices in the trunk area. Other than that, you will be paying $69 plus shipping for 8 extension speaker wires and an antenna extender. You still have to run the wires from the back to the front.

from Crutchfield:

Speaker Wiring Adapter/Amplifier Bypass: Supplied with the kit is a 17-1/2' Speaker Wiring adapter harness that carries the output signal from the new receiver to the factory speaker harness, located in the rear of the vehicle. The bare ends of this harness need to be spliced to the speaker output wires of the new receiver. The other end contains the 14-pin Speaker Input Plug which connects to the factory speaker harness after it has been disconnected from the amplifier output. (Note: The factory amplifier is located in the rear of the vehicle and the speaker wiring harness, along with the supplied antenna extension cable, need to be routed from the radio location to the rear of the vehicle.) The factory amplifier is bypassed and the speakers are powered by the new receiver. The color codes for the Speaker Wiring Adapter are:

White: Left Front Speaker Positive
White/Black: Left Front Speaker Negative
Green: Left Rear Speaker Positive
Green/Black: Left Rear Speaker Negative
Gray: Right Front Speaker Positive
Gray/Black: Right Front Speaker Negative
Violet: Right Rear Speaker Positive
