Hi Dlbgdrummer

Welcome dude :cheer:

You will be wanting a Pertronix Ignitor part # 1281 or 91281 (http://www.pertronix.com) check out Thier Catalogue (http://www.pertronix.com/ptx2007_cat/ptx07_auto.pdf). Better get yourself a Flamethrower coil (http://www.pertronix.com/new_products/ignition_press/hv.htm) while you have your wallet out.

Hey Glenn,

If it is stock go with the Pertronix. Everything is contained within the stock distributor completely out of sight. This is a very popular route.

Check out this link for a "how to"
http://www.mustangsplus.com/tech/prtronix/index.html

You can purchase Pertronix from Jegs.com or (possibly) a local vendor. I am not familiar with any speed shops around Tucson, but they are sold at several speed shops around Phoenix. It should run less than $100...

Good Luck,
Joe

Yeah, it's excellent for a stock motor.

If it's not stock consider a Duraspark conversion. In the mid 70s Ford went over to Duraspark electronic ignition. Most of the time you can drop a Duraspark distributor directly into an earlier model points V8.This is especially worthwhile when you can pickup a rebuilt Duraspark 302 distributors for $40 from Checker.

For my 67 cougar 289 I went with a 77 Mustang 302 Duraspark distributor, MSD 6AL ignition box, MSD blaster coil and 8mm wires. Cost around $320 which is reasonable considering the entire ignition is new (and improved).

I ran a pertronix setup in my old Volkswagen. Worked great, simple install, never gave me any trouble. The lack of extra wiring was a plus. it had 2 wires coming out of the distributor instead of one, but thats it.
