I need to know where to get the two idle mixture limiter caps for my 79 Continental. Its the 2150 factory carb that came on it. I need both pieces for both sides.

The rebuild kits don't come with the caps. I've probably bought 6 of those kits over the last 15 years- none came with the caps.
Come to think of it, I never owned a car with the 2150 that had the caps still on it...even a low-mileage one...

This Motorcraft kit appears to have them,it;s a 2 bbl but 4 bbl should have 4 caps.

Most people took those things off and tossed them in the bin so they could adjust the carb to run correctly.

The thing is I just bought a carb kit and rebuilt it but still can't get it to run just right. I can get it to run pretty decent but I have to adjust it rich to do that. It has the original cap rotor and coil, could changing these help any, although they appear in good shape?

cap/rotor/plugs/wires...
make sure they are all good, not just 'looking ok'. a slightly rich mix will light easier if I recall properly (remember I said slightly). thats what the choke does, richen the mix, so the cold engine can keep the fires lit.

The spots where the idle mixture screws were before I rebuilt the car made it blow fire out of the carb when I turned it over. I adjusted them back down to just slightly rich to get it running and driveable. The sparkplugs are good looking but black as hell from the rich mixture. And one more question, how do I tell if I have the optional rear end. The owners manual said there was an opional rear end, antilock brakes and adjustable air bags. I have never seen them on this year but the manual says their could be.

Not yet, I was wanting to but haven't gotten time to do it yet.

I almost always end up with the idle mix set rich. If it runs happy I pay no attention to whether its slightly rich or not.
You know, you could swap that anemic 2v carb out for a 4bbl and wake that motor up somewhat.

I kinda want to keep the original carb. The car is completely original and has a flawless interior so I figure with whats around here in south Florida it will make good at some local car shows.

Popin' through the carb? sounds like a timing issue to me.. you may be fighting 2 problems at once and just not getting anywhere...
