I'd like to swap in fresh shocks. Being as these cars have some sort of leveling system is there anything special I need to know about the shocks? My car is a 99 Signature.
There's dealers around the country that will heavily discount new parts to anybody for Chevy. I'm hoping Lincoln has a dealer I can order parts from at a good discount.
I ask because my local dealer wants 350 bucks for the seat motor/track assembly. I guess you can only buy them together these days or so I have been told. My seat doesn't move forward and backward when inserting or removing the key. I hear a clicking noise as though the motor is working but it sounds like a gear is stripped. Maybe I could just change this gear out of a used Lincoln.
Thank You

The auto-level is an air spring, not related to the shocks. Nothing overly special about replacing them, nut on top, bolt or a nut on the bottom.
You could try to locate a car from the junkyard for the seat motor assembly if its bad. Not sure how much life it may have, but for what it's worth, both of the motors in my 1986 are original. I do not have memory seats though so they really dont move very often.

Go the JY route or have one shipped from a car-part.com junkyard. Any shocks for CV/GM/TC will work, depending on how smooth of a ride/ handling you want.

Thank you guys for the info. If someone could recommend a shock that would improve handling a bit that would be good. I used to go with KYB's on my other cars, Z28 and Mustang GT, but for this car I just want a good all around performer that is better for handling than stock.

The CVPI shocks are a best buy. Other guys like the Bilsteins and the Edelbrock IAS for handling...theres a few others too for more competitive pricing I forget offhand.

I have KYB GR2s on my car and like them. They help with handling without being overly stiff, and the price is reasonable. The CVPI shocks are also a good choice.

I'm using the KYB Gas-Adjust shocks. They have a stiffer ride, but make the Town Car handle more like a touring car. The price was around $120 for all four.

Well I went with the KYB gas a just shocks. The ride is much more sure footed. Then the stock shocks had 82k on them and are thoroughly shot.
The stock shocks look to be very cheap. I was a little surprised that one the top car Ford makes they'd use the super cheapo oem shocks. Fortunately for 135 bucks the ride is better than new, at least imo. The car drove pretty unwieldly. Being used to GT class cars for two decades and going to a mush mobile was strange.
The ride is still very supple but the car maneuvers competently now. It will never be any fun on an autocross course but I love this car already, more than I thought I might. Now if it just had about another 50-100 hp.:)

now when you say cvpi do you mean the stock ones or just any off brand made for the cvpi.

Well any offbrand will be made for the Panther chassis, not specifically the CVPI. I was referring to the factory original CVPI's, they are cheap and proven. Although maybe 50K-75K mile shocks though.
