Here is yet another of my not mechanically inclined questions: Car has 116K on it..bought it with 110K. Not sure when the plugs were last replaced. Figure I should have it done. Is it straight forward? The plugs are readily accessible? I ask b/c on one of my jap vehicles (please don't flame me) it was pretty extensive to change the plugs. Anyone have it done at a shop, idea of cost?
As always your wisdom is appreciated!!!!!!:o

Yep, they're failry simple. Remove the airbox and you're at the RH side, the LH side is underneath a bracket with some plugs & whatnot attached to it, held on by a couple of 10mm bolts (IIRC). Then there is a cover on each side held on by four bolts and you're in. You'll need a looooong extension as they are pretty far down there, but I think you'll be surprised at how easy this job is.
Use MC plugs or Autolite 764s. Don't forget antiseize, and be *very* careful putting them back in because these are aluminum heads.

Along with anti-seize on the new plug threads...I would not remove the old plugs unless the engine is completely cold. Aluminum spark plug threads can be very fragile....and costly to repair.

Great tip that you mentioned a cold engine! Also, don't forget a little dielectric grease in the end of the boot. It makes removal easier when the next tune up is due.

mc plugs, do I need to gap em or pre gapped? If so, whats the gap? And the torque if anyone knows? Thanks guys (97 mark viii)
I posted a pic below... Dont know the cars history because i just picked this one up a few weeks ago. I figured I'd run this by some of the fellas on this site. Do these plugs look like they have been changed before? (changing them out anyways but just curiouse. 100,000 miles)
I would never know being that I look at plugs maybe every 2 years or so..... Might be hard to see from the pic but they are jet black... also picked up alittle oil down there around the side of the socket(not on the inside of the plug just around the outside):);)

Pregapped plugs can be disturbed by the shipping process. AKA, gap them, regardless of whether they are pre-gapped or not. I believe I set mine to .054, forget the torque though.
