(MKS Concept Car)
From what I heard on the 'net, we were supposed to see a production-ready MKS at the New York Auto Show. The auto show ended today, and I see nothing about the MKS on the Internet.
Did the Internet lie to me again? What's up, Lincoln?:faint:

Yep
BTW: doesn't the trunk opening look incredibly small?

The sketch looks pretty good, better than the concept even, but I still want RWD. I'm glad to see they are finally trimming the overhangs.

Not crazy about that. Lincolns need overhang to be a Lincoln. Right now the company is so busy chasing the generic standard of modern luxury cars (and losing) they are much better off making cars look a little more American to get people to buy them.

Supposedly the MKS was going to be fast tracked for 2008 production. Maybe that changed.
Ford needs to figure out WTF is the deal with this "D3" chassis, because they've been throwing billions in it (new factory) for the past 5-ish years and getting squat in return.
The 500 and Montego are no match for the Panther Chassis in sales, don't be surprised if the MKS vs. Town Car follows suit.

I'll argue that overhangs don't equate to Americana for styling. At least, it doesn't need to in the future. A longer wheelbase with shorter overhangs can still create regal hoods and larger than European trunks. What is American now? The Panther cars? I like them, but they're bland for luxury car buyers. You can't say that the 300C doesn't copy the playbook of a Bentley. The Magnum/"Charger" might count, but it's brutish and ugly. There's no grace with them at all. In terms of originality, the Dodge may have the edge.
Maybe I like too many European cars and organic styling curves, but I'm less than optimistic a domestic manufacturer can make something unique without doing something retro and without doing something ultra modern like the Art & Science theme which still doesn't appeal to me one bit. The concept MKR didn't look too bad, but it drew heavily on what Lincoln knew and what worked. With a revised front end, maybe it could start the design language Lincoln has been lacking. Others have overtaken domestics in the market and have set the tone. We're playing the oh so Detroit game of catch up. If we want to be successful and different, we have to surpass and then set the standard again. History is written by the winners. So too does it hold true for most vehicle designs.

That would be good too. Problem is, Ford isn't interested in trying harder to make cars that look more American, it just isn't in the cards right now.
But overhang is still a good thing, especially in insurance claims (accident payouts) and accessability to stuff underhood. And you can still have an entertaining car with some overhang, its just not gonna impress a stopwatch like a BMW.
I'm willing to have more American style (easily recognizable) even at the expense of full-tilt handling.

Yes Sir!
IMO, many cars such as the 300c would look significantly better with larger over hangs.
Longer, Lower, Wider, Faster...:)

I still think that sketch looks sexy as hell! But what happened to the fender port? Now its just a lincoln star? Must be another victim of bean counting... :(
