Looks like it'll be cuter and chubbier than the concept car. :)

Well, hate it or love it, this is Lincolns last chance to turn the brand around. I think it will work, in the sense that it will attract the euro and import crowd, especially if it gets good reviews.

Where's the Continental or the 427 or even the Interceptor concept?

Chubbier and cuter is not what I want to see. The MKS drawing was nice, but it has gotten progressively less attractive. It looks like a Lexus derivative at this point: uber bland and lifeless.

I believe I won't be trading in the Mark VII anytime soon. With crap like that the old Mark will surely appreciate in value.

Import buyers are more inclined to stick with imports...as they look imported and have a reputation for quality that they deserve.
Lincolns need to look American to actually give people a reason to consider them. And if the MKS really does replace the Town Car come 2009, there are gonna be a lot of unhappy LoL'ers.

Just go buy the new (not -2006 D3 version) Volvo s80....you know you want it. ;)
Volvo has officially announced its much-anticipated 2007 S80 luxury sedan. The S80 is the largest of Volvo’s S-range of saloons, and the company says this second-generation S80 offers a "competitive alternative to the dominant, German luxury saloon rivals thanks to its own distinctive Scandinavian style, combined with excellent ride and handling characteristics benchmarked against the class leaders." Engine choices include a new Volvo 315hp V8 with AWD and 3.2L naturally aspirated inline-six-cylinder with 238hp. Prices will be announced in the spring. The car will be on display at the Geneva auto show in March.

"The spy shooters over at KGP notes that the mule’s grille looks rather different than the showcar, with a design that is reminiscent of 2007’s MKR concept"

Except the Volvo's V8 probably won't be a match for the MKS' twin turbo V6. But odds are the MKS will be butt-ugly compared to the muscular S80.
Oh, it looks like the MKS lost the Mark VIII style grille and does have the big grin of the MKR concept. I guess that will help make it look more American.

:dunno:
Volvo stopped production of the current generation R series (300hp turbo-charged inline 5) in March.
Which means something will replace it.
I'm putting my money on a twin turbo v8 based on the 4.4 - Volvo already has quite a bit of experience with turbos, both single & twin.
That'll blow the doors off of your twin turbo v6. ;)

Not that it cannot happen, but it will not happen under the half-dead hand of FoMoCo. That's why Aston Martin found a new owner to fund their upcoming 4-door project. (which Ford denied funding for)

I hear you there.
On a side note, it's been confimed there is a twin turbo version of the new 3.2 (most likely end up as a 3.1 in bi-turbo form) I-6 coming out - early reports say around 300hp.

What drive wheels is this thing going to have? AWD standard? Optional? And if optional, RWD standard?

AWD will be standard. Well it better be with a twin turbo V6.
This chassis is FWD, so even the AWD will be more biased to the front wheels...I seriously doubt Lincoln will actually send more power to the back wheels, but if they do...good for them.

I actually like it. I'm not going to judge the fine details like so many others do (check out cheersandgears.com) when the thing is covered in camouflage. I do love the MKR grille though. The generic MKS concept grille looks too much like the grille from the 1995 Lincoln L2K concept. Plus, I didn't realize how big the MKS really is until the real life photos.
I wonder why there are only just a few real life MKS photos floating around the net? The rest are crappy cgi and photoshopped studio images.

The AWD in the S80 is FWD based. The MKS will likely mimic the system closely. Sad, but probable. If the car can be tuned into a screamer, there might be hope yet for getting some showroom traffic and public buzz.

Who knows...maybe the Haldex system can be RWD biased.
That and the usual SCT tune would really wake this thing up.
