My AC quit while I was in traffic and I can't get it to blow... I hear all kinds of things opening and closing when I play with the controls, but nothing. Tried the diagnostic posted here, but it doesn't seem to work on my 2001 TC.
My wife drove the car a few days ago and she said it worked fine, then I tried it and the fan started for about 5 seconds then quit - nothing since...
Ideas?

Oh, how can I tell if it's the blower motor or the control unit? (or something else?)

Fuses 2 and 6 and relay 2 run the a/c.
You can test the motor by jumpering the wire going to it to + battery power. The EATC test will work on your car. Keep trying.

I'll try the other fuse (just checked one 30amp one) and the relay... I'll try the diagnostic again, but after doing the 2 buttons together, and then hit the AUTO right after, it would just turn on the unit - nothing more.

Hey hey just wanted to let you know I had the same problem...my vents would work then wouldnt work...work for a while and then just turn off suddenly and then later would turn back on again...sometimes they wouldn't turn on at all...anyways turned out to be my blower motor...never made any weird noises or anything telling me that it was bad but it did go out.

On-Board Diagnostic, turn the key to the 'ON' (RUN) position, then press the OFF and FLOOR buttons together (at the same time) and release, then immediately (within 2 seconds) press the AUTOMATIC button.

Thanks all for the help... tried the diagnostic again, it did work (I was holding the 2 buttons in too long at first try), but came back with nothing. Checked the fuses (ok) - don't know how to check a relay, but I'm guessing it's ok and probably the blower or the control module is the problem...
It looked like the blower was easier to replace than the control module, is that right? If it is the blower motor, is that a dealer part or Auto Zone, NAPA, etc. part?

I see I can just go get one and change it out - looks easy... In the online repair instructions, I didn't see the dongle hanging off the motor - is this what I need?

OK - got the blower motor changed - and it ddn't do anything!! So is there anything else I can check? I haven't been able to check the relay (don't know how to check it). The diagnostic didn't give me any codes. If it was the control module would I get a code?
Arrgghh!

Throwing parts at the problem will fix it eventually, maybe............not.
You can't fix newer cars like that, unless you have deep pockets, then it's probably cheaper to take it to a dealer and have them fix the problem.
First thing, buy yourself a service manual, free at www.fordcds.com , or $5 or so on ebay or a real paper one for $100 or so from www.helminc.com
2nd, read it and learn to use it.
3rd, buy a DVM(digital volt meter) and learn to use that to find the problem.
If there is power to the blower motor connector with the ignition on, then your problem could be the variable speed control module, or the wiring, or the head unit itself.
