My Check engine light is on and the code said the EGR valve was the problem. I saw some tech help here for older models and was wondering if cleaning was the same for a 2001 TC....

Hi Amaxis
Nope! The EGR set up is different on the 01 TC, what was the code pullled?

Ah - don't know as the guy at my tire place didi it... I didn't get the actual code. Will see if I can get it when I go to pick up my blower motor today.
My 2001 TC that just turned 60k miles has already had the air ldle control replaced, now the blower motor, and this EGR thing... is that normal for so few miles?? People told me TC's are pretty reliable!

Ok - the code is P0401 - EGR Flow Insufficient.

P0401 means "insufficient EGR Flow Detected". It is likely caused by a failed DPFE sensor. The sensor monitors EGR flow, basically. They are a common failure part, way more so than the EGR valve.
All 3 problems are common. They just seem to be happening a bit early on your car. They are all pretty minor.

It was the sensor - and it was covered under warranty! Zero dollars!

Hi, I was just thinking what warranty do you have left on your 01 with 60,000 miles.

It was a recall item... and they did ding me $40 for it anyway (surprise!).

Yep, 8yr/100K federally mandated warranty on emissions components IIRC.
