On my last Town Car, I replaced front end parts as the went bad. Parts kept failing one at a time and I decided next time I'd just rebuild the whole thing at once. (Too many alignments needed)

My 99 is wearing the front tires on the edges so I figure it's time for a rebuild. It's got 92K on it. I checked everything out and I don't see any worn parts. The passenger side outer tie rod and lower ball joint have zerk fittings on them so I assume they have been replaced. I plan to buy MOOG front end parts. I am starting to wonder if it makes sense to replace everything. The parts really add up fast $$$. I was thinking maybe just changing the inner and outer tie rods and the upper and lower ball joints. Any thoughts?
On my Mark VIII, the upper control arm gets replaced as a unit and it really improved the way the car drove.

My '99 doesn't have one lose part (have is luck with these Teflon joints though). Maybe you just need an alignment because the last guy didn't get it aligned after replacing the tie rod ends. If you checked it, and came up with no play, the car might as well be brand new.

I bought all the cheap crap from rockauto, you can rebuild the entire front end for $150 or less with their Spicer Red line.

I was thinking about that. I might just get it aligned, but the last car is ringing in my ears. Outer Tie rod, next, lower ball joint, next the other side tie rod, next inner tie rod... Each time is a ruined tire and another trip to the alignment shop.

I know, I know! Its a tough decision, all depends on how many miles you plan to put on it. You really only need an alignment after you do the upper balljoints. I am careful in replacing tie rods so I do not get an alignment after, although it would be good practice.

If your front tires are wearing more at the edges and not as much in the center, your tires could be underinflated, try raising the pressure about 3 psi. The guage you use to check them may easily be out 3-5 psi.
