Can I just remove the gas cap when changing the fuel filter on my 99TC? I ask because the service manual says release pressure from a valve where the Haynes manual says to remove the gas cap only.

Also where is it? I haven't jacked it up but couldn't see it just looking from the side.

Thank You

Forget Haynes. In the engine compartment is a fuse panel with relays. With the engine running, pull out the fuel pump relay. OR If you know where the fuel rail is, release the pressure from the 'tire valve' on the rail WITH THE ENGINE OFF!!!

Easiest to just do it in the morning after the pressure dissipates IMO.
