This is a big letdown:
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/11/2009-lincoln-mks-to-get-first-application-of-gdi-v-6/
Not only is the MKS not gonna have the V8 that sistership Volvos enjoy, but the V6 will be similar to the MKZ (3.5L), or a little bigger (3.7L) and will NOT be turbocharged as many of us hoped. The only bright side is that it will have direct injection (injector fires into the cylinder head, not the intake) and turbos might be added in the future.
But for now, the MKS' engine will be as mediocre today as the Essex Continental was back in 1988. :(

Why am I not surprised?

What goes through these people's minds? I'm still hoping for a CTS competitor though I doubt it will win over the Caddy people.

If they really kill off the Town Car for this Volvo-turd I'm gonna puke.

I seriously don't see what the big deal is... most buyers don't opt for V8 power anyway. Yes, a V8 on the option sheet looks great but let's get real: most people don't pony up to the V8 when both are offered. The majority of STS's, E-class, 5-series and GS's and Infiniti M's are sold with V6 power. As a car enthusiast, I don't understand why, but as a consumer I do. No appreciable amount of people who purchase new cars from this segment drive their cars at 10/10ths for anything but a negligible amount of time. Why must we crucify this car for not having a bajillion horsepower? Our Town Cars have only produced from 205-239hp in the last ten years and they function just fine. Wanna scorch the rear tires off at every light? Buy a Mustang GT.
As a car enthusiast, I'm disappointed that a 3.5L twin-turbo direct injection V6 isn't offered, but a FWD based AWD platform isn't suited to a high horsepower engine anyway. Audi does an okay job at it but that's their niche.
Give FoMoCo a chance to get it right with the right platform instead. I'm sure there are greater things coming down the pike. Let's wait until we can drive the MKS for ourselves before we judge it.

Except for Cadillac (which isn't doing that well), none of these automakers were known for standard V8 power. Its okay for them, unacceptable for Lincoln.
Lincoln can't use the same excuses as imports...they need a V8 (or a turbo V6) to lure people into Lincoln showrooms again. They got nothin' if their Lincolns don't give American style and performance for the same price as a boring Lexus or stuffy MB.
Even worse, you CAN get a V8 in the MKS' competition, and those people are the ones who should be spending $50,000 at a Lincoln dealership.

Even if Lincoln wants to rebrand itself as a maker of pussy machines, they'd still have to rebrand their image. I haven't seen a decent Lincoln ad since the one they ran for the LS (super bowl ad?) The car isn't even styled very well. I'm seeing very little MKZs and MKSs on the road. I see the occasional Navi but it looks like its jaws are wired shut.
I don't care if Lincoln falls flat. What goes around comes around. Hmm, I wonder if Mercury will fold and Lincoln will be the new Mercury

Why must we crucify this car for not having a bajillion horsepower?
Because the competition does, and Lincoln needs to win some of those customers back. They won't do it by offering people fewer horsepower than the competition. Well, maybe they could if they had all the right gadgets, an uber-suspension with a soft ride & great handling, timeless styling, and, the most difficult to engineer into a car: status. Sadly, the Town Car has none of that, which is why it can't compete in today's market. The jury is still out on the MKS, so until i get behind the wheel or in the backseat of one I won't make a judgement, but if Ford is cutting corners here that probably means the rest of the car is going to be cheapified too - and that WON'T win customers back :(

I'll believe it when I see it. Ford often toys with our minds, talking about building fantastic cars, and delivering "Pintos".

Aint that the truth. So many breathtaking concepts and so many disappointing production models. Way to go Ford.

Wouldn't it suck to be the engineer in this picture and have your ass plastered all over the web?
