To date, the ONLY 17 inch wheels that bolt on with no modifications or spacers and the center caps fit are the 94-97 Cobra and the 95 Cobra Rs.

Quite often other aftermarket wheels will fit with some grinding on the bearing hub.

It seems to be hit or miss with aftermarket wheels, some are cast with room for the hub, some not.

I personally have set an extra rotor into an '03 wheel. It was going to need mucho grinding to get it to seat properly. Or a spacer. I am not a fan of either.

Bottom line is try before you buy.

03 Cobras do not fit without major modifications to the hub...if not more work. The only Mark with those wheels had cobra brakes (SN-95 spindles), and no ABS.

It's such a risk getting wheels that fit correctly. There are always great deals on CraigsList. Unfortunately most of them don't fit the Mark 7.

I've searched on here before for wheels but still haven't found the main problem with fitting. Is it the front brakes that give the problem? What are the exact specs of Mark VII wheels, and why won't newer Mustang wheels such as 2000 Mustang GT wheels (17x8) fit?

Thanks.

Most wheels don't clear the hubs.

buddy of mine has a set of 03 cobras on his and he has a stock brake setup...only trouble he ran into was how to make a decent looking center cap. stock stang center cap wont fit over the petruding hub.

This is what I mean by hit or miss.
Are these 03 Cobras factory or aftermarket? Are you certain he did not have to grind the hub down? I ask because the 03's I tried would NOT sit flush onto the rotor. And I don't mean just barely did not fit, I mean "damn, I have a lot of grinding to do" would not fit.

next time i see him im going to get the specifics. from the way he explained it he didnt do any grinding.
if they werent factory they were direct replicas.

...if they werent factory they were direct replicas.

That's typically what they claim, but rarely what they deliver.

My lsc wheels fit quite well on my 78' cougar even my 58' t-bird, even a 91' ranger I had. I went to sears a few years back & saw a set of rims I thought would look really good on my 84' mark 7 but according to them the manufacturer doesnt make rims to fit my car. Oh-well Eastwood has a kit to refurbish wheels so thats whats I plan to do. Guess I'll stick with my 16's
