I have 2 95 TC Signatures. The newest one has something in the trunk on the left side that looks like the stereo thing on the right but smaller. It also has big black plastic housing things aroung the speakers which you can see from the inside of the trunk. Does anyone know what the silver thing is on the left side in the trunk? If not I'll post pics later.

On my 95 that is the sub-woofer amp. The big plastic thing is the sub-woofer enclosure. The sub-woofer enclosure is designed to give you maximum bass from the 6.5" woofer. like the Bose wave radio. The woofer, if original, probably has a rotted surround by now (mine did). Replacing it is cheap $30 max and easy.

I believe the amp and the radio control unit look similar to each other.

Would you have a pic of how it is secured because it is just laying there with all the wires hooked up? It is part number F5VF-198176-AA. It appears to have some sliding bracket on the back. There is also a piece of carpet which appears to go over something. There is also Ford JBL insignia on the bottom of the speakers. My other 95 doesn't have this little silver thing on the left side so I can't check. Thanks

Thanks very much. I would have never figured it was mounted this way. I now know why mine is lying on the floor. The brass stud/bolt that has the nut on was broken off. The guy who designed it must have spent 40 years in school to become such an auspicious engineer. Ford must have hired the engineers who can't get hired anywhere else. Thanks again.

It appears that where the stud is mounted, it is solid plastic. I was thinking about extracting the broken stud or drilling it out. Does anyone know what is in there? Or recommendations as to how to mount this thing? I really don't want to drill into the unknown.

Once you have a picture of how exactly yours is broken we can be more helpful. Mine is completely bypassed due to the aftermarket stereo, but the radio unit is still in place.

There is an L shaped bracket that holds the unit to the black thing and is held in place by a nut and a plastic centering pin (where the black wire on the right runs up). The bolt that protrudes from the black plastic thing is where the nut is in the pic. The bolt is broken off flush with the black plastic thing. Don't know if this helps?

OIC! The "Black Plastic Thing" is just a bump stop for the spare tire on the spare tire shelf. I have never looked inside it, but I am sure enough that it is hollow that I would have no problem drilling it out on my car.

Use a high-speed drill or Dremel and just go slow. When you start to feel the bit punch through into dead space, back off. put your bracket back up there with an appropriately sized self tapping screw. You could forgo the drilling and use self tapping screws directly into the plastic by repositioning the bracket a 1/2" toward the rear of the car.

Or, a less risky and less sturdy approach may be to JB Weld the bracket back up there. The remaining centering pin plus plenty of JB Weld would probably be enough to hold it in place.

Personally, I would drill out the stud and put in a self tapping screw. Or snag the entire assembly from a junk yard.

Is the stud on the far end (passenger side) also broken off?

The stud is still there. I'll go with the self taping screw. Thanks
