Sorry but I cant resist saying this.
That Town Car is supposed to command such authority coming down the
street that a horn is not needed ! Everyone should just move aside
while you pass. ;) Phrawg

I agree, they are adequate but thats it. The best horn I ever had was in the 72 Caddy. Hard to explain, but listen in your head to a train engine horn, lower volume of course. That Caddy horn said 'Get the F out of the way' a full 5 minutes before you got there LOL. Of course none of those cars would remain in a junkyard, steel prices and such. I wonder where you could get some!? Im not sure what an old Lincoln horn sounds like from that era either.....

Just go to the autoparts store and get a set of air horns for it. I assure you people will hear you coming when you hit the horn button!

I also love the horn on the 1972 cadillac. I would honk my 72 deville's horn at railroad crossings, which would cause other drivers to slam on their brakes and pedestrians to stop and look really confused. The 2nd best feature after the horn (which DID sound like a train - it was actually three notes forming a chord) was the lack of any pillars between the front and back windows. I would love to hear that a new sedan is being produced without these between-window side pillars, because having one huge window on each side of the car is almost as nice as having a convertible.

I had a 72 Oldsmobile Delta 88 that was pillarless between the front and rear doors. I loved it! Roll all 4 windows down and just cruise! I should have never ever sold that car! Although when I owned it gas was $.77 a gallon so I could afford to feed the 455 4BBL. At $3.00 a gallon the thought of filling it up kinda makes me shudder a little bit! LOL

The horn you are referring to came standard on more than just a '72 Cadillac. If I recall, it was the "4 note horn" and full size Buicks had them. My son's '93 Sedan DeVille has a similiar sound, but the 4 note horn was best. I agree on the mid-90's Lincoln horns, rather lackluster for such an image car.

Yes I bet alot of the GM's had them. I do know that my 77 Deville did not though. It was not any better than the TC. I never realized they were 4 note. I have to say, the Eldo I owned 24 years ago, and dont remember the horn set up. How would you get 4 note? Was it four actual 'trumpets'?

It was an option, so that's why you're '77 didn't have it. I will have to do research on it, but I distinctly remember 4 individual "trumpets." We had that option on our '76 Buick Estate Wagon my dad bought brand new. I absolutely loved that horn. It sounded best at about 30 - 35 mph. If you were standing by the road and it passed you blarin' you'd swear it was a train. I use to honk that horn alot, just to hear it.

Sir-Just Aquired 92 TC Exec. 235,000 mi. Amazing! But the Horns are for boat anchors. Read with great intrest your post on the 'To Die For' Caddie 4 notes. I remember how
trainlike & downright beautiful they sounded. Any clue where to start looking? Used to be a cool guy who had a sight called 'Air Raid Sirens'. He has now changed his hobby all to just horns. Mybe I'll give him a bell & let you know. I'm sure many local Caddie Clubs would just LOVE to sell us T C Terminators a set. Thks any leads. jkavasch@charter.net
