i was wondering if the airbag light is flashing a series of 10, which i think is considered constant, will the airbags deploy in a wreck?
i was just wondering because i almost plowed head-on into someone tonight at 45mph.
the retarded driver turned off a side road into the main 2 lane street right in front of me, but i was able to swerve off the road at the last second. i didn't touch the other car but tomorrow i am going to inspect the suspension for any damage from going off the road at 45mph.

Air bag SRS warning lamp has to be off for them to function.

My TC does the same thing it flashes 10 times then goes off for a few seconds then flashes 10 times and goes off etc. I am kinda curious what cause that. I read the ford service manual and it doesn't address the 10 flashes in the diagnostics of the SRS system. Every FLM I've been in of the 90's vintage the airbag light has flashed on.

yeah i have been wondering as well. when i got the car i noticed it blinking different codes every once and a while then it would go away for a while. it started coming on more than before. now it is just flashing 10 times all the time.

Could be bad connections over time. Try unplugging, cleaning and re-plugging in all the connectors.

Knowing my luck I'd do that and when I plugged the battery back in both air bags would blow!

LOL, I'm waiting for someone to jump in and say "Just replace the air bags with coil springs... That way, when you crash into a light pole or have a head-on with a Mack truck, your face will gently rebound off the steering wheel...."

Rofl.....I don't know about you but the thought of taking a Crown Vic coil spring to my face at 60mph doesn't sound very appealing!:D

If you're Air Bag light is flashing a constant "10", you need to replace the Clockspring under the bag in the steering column. I had the same thing happen in my '92 Signature Series and that solved the problem. The system will not work properly if there are codes flashing. I got the part at my local NAPA as their quality is better than the AutoZone or Pep Boys around here.

Hi BubbaD4life
As has been said the air bags will not deploy as long as the Air Bag light is on, as has also been said (by Hizhonor in a rare flash of brilliance :D) it is most likely the clockspring you may also have to replace the diagnostic moniter.

how hard of a job is it to replace the clockspring, and do you need any special tools.

Not hard, but you want a service manual so you know how to handle the b*mb aka air bag in the steering wheel. Also look in the tech section, there may be some info there.

I apologize for adding a post to such an old thread, but I am having the same issue on my 1990 TC and the link above appears to be broken. Would anyone be able to post information for the repair required for an air bag light that flashes in a series of 10 flashes and then a long pause?
Thanks!
Jason
