I am trying to find out where the best place to get an ECU for a 98 Lincoln Mark 8 LSC..Im getting an error code B1342..The dealer wants 585 dollars for it..Is there somewhere to get it cheaper? Are there aftermarket companies that sell them for this car?? I saw a few on ebay but there saying they are ecm pcm ecu module?? Isthat the same? I have no clue what this part looks like...I get a check traction control and abs light that come up on my dash.. My mechanic thought it would be a good idea to ask around online first before spending the money.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. If you can contact me my name is Terry harrell23@comcast.net

Welcome. First off, most people here don't trust dealers. What exactly is wrong with the car? I'm not sure that's a valid code, as your car is supposed to give 3-digit codes.
Its almost NEVER the computer. I don't trust their diagnosis. Any parts store (like Autozone) can scan it for you and give you a code.

Oh yeah, it's a valid code Pro. Usually the three digit code simply has a 0 in front of it, a la P0420.

"DETECTION CONDITION
• The EHPAS control module on-board diagnostic function detects system malfunction.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
• EHPAS control module internal malfunction
• Poor connection at connectors "
Thanks Mazda guys :)
I agree with Pro, I'd like to know what the car is doing (aside from throwing a code). I'd also want to see if there are any other codes and what they are, and try clearing the B1432 to see if it comes back.

I didnt have the dealer check the codes.. My friend is mechanic and scanned it for me... Its saying the B1342 ECU Defective.. When I start the car the check traction control system pops up along with the abs light and the tractionn control is automatically turned off... So I have no abs or traction control while im driving..It seems to run fine besides the crappy weather here in Michigan and no abs or traction kinda sucks... Is the ecu the same as the pcm and ecm? He checked all the fuses and thats the only code that pops up... We have cleared the code 4 times now at first it would stay off for a few days and now it comes on everytime I start the car.. Any suggestions???

Yes, ECU, PCM, and ECM are the same. Sounds like yours is shot to me, but don't bank too much on my opinion - let's hear what some of the other guys have to say.
If it comes down to that, give Max at Five Star Ford a ring at 18008661520, ask for Max in parts. He can usually give pretty competitive pricing.
The unit is located under the dash on the driver's side. There is a plastic clip holding it up and one single plug held on by a 10mm bolt, I believe it's an 80 pin connector so it's several inches wide. You may be wise to have that in your hand when you call, as you may need some of the numbers from it.

Thats the ANTILOCK ECU, not your PCM
REPLACE the anti-lock brake control module, it is shot.....
B1342 - "B" stands for Body computer

PM me your VIN # before you buy anything, there may be a issue with this, I'll check it out. I know if the dealer isn't doing the repairs, the garage wont have a clue.......maybe needs a reset or a blown fuse to the ABS/Trac Control Processor
That is an expensive job to do. It's under the left front wheel well, PITA to do to. The Control unit bolts to the ECU and you have to take the whole thing apart to repair it.

The mechanic doing the work is my uncle.. He's checked all fuses in box and under the hood they are not blown and have power to them. He knows the job is a pain because he has replaced this part in the past.. I just dont wanna buy the whole part with all the hoses to the brake lines and all that I just need the computer part of it... But it seems like nobody wants to sell it that way.. Any ideas?? It has to be the ecu theres nothing else wrong with anything weve checked every possible scenario.. Wheel speed sensors..alternator..the whole 9thats the only code??Does anyone know who sells just the ecu computer by itself??? The vin# 1LNFM92V8WY605627.... I have seen a few on EBAY but dont know exactly what they look like?? Does anyone have the exact picture of one??? Do the 97 ecu work with the 98??

before I replaced anything, I would unplug the connector on the ecu and look for posssible water contamination. I do not know where you can get just the module itself without the entire HCU ( Hydraulic control unit)
