View Full Version : Loose air compressor mounts?

I recently had my engine mounts replaced and a new front swaybar installed. Everything is peachy except for a rubbing/squeaking sound in the front. I opened the hood, cycled the suspension with a couple pushes and heard the sound coming from below the airbox.

Please help me answer this:

Does the air compressor mount get loose over time? (or from dropping the K-member)

Does a new Ford compressor come with new bushings? (I have a 3yr old model in my car, I expect the compressor is fine, but maybe not the bushings)

I don't have a shop manual in my apartment, do I need to get under the car to check the air compressor mounts or can I do it under the hood? (I took out the air silencer, so I can see it)

Arnott sells a rubber insulator kit http://www.arnottindustries.com/part_LINCOLN_Air_Suspension_Parts_yid2_pid7_gid13. html I don't know if the dealer sells them seperately...they do wear out over time.
Removing the K member has nothing to do with the suspension compressor.

Ok, that's good to know. Odds are I need to pull the airbox and grab the compressor to see if its loose. I love working on old cars, you fix one thing and something else goes wrong.:)

I know EXACTLY how that feels.

You need to access the compressor from underneath. It's easy to get to through the passenger fenderwell. I can't remember if you can get your hand in through the top, but I think you can see it that way.

Unbolting the passenger side of the front bumper-cover will let you reach everything.

Turns out it was the strut rod bushing, it wasn't tightened up after they rebolted the K-member to the car. No biggie!

They must have used a different method than I did to remove the k-member. I didn't have to do anything to the strut rods.
Good to see you got it fixed.
