Can someone please tell me how many foot pounds to torque these valve cover bolts? I had to change those spark plug seals (or valve seals????? or whatever they are called:confused:) I got the covers back on but left the bolts loose for now...
Also, is that the evr on the driverside strut tower? I pulled that little filter out and it fell apart on me.. My parts dealer says he cant get it because he cant seem to find the part #..... Gonna cruise over to the local bone yard if all else fails...
;)Thanks guys....
Oh and It may be tooo late, but do I need to be putting sealant on for those gaskets?

8-12 N-m (70-106 lb-in)
Some parts of the install steps from the Manual:
Apply Silicone Gasket and Sealer F1AZ-19562-A (WSE-M4G320-AZ) or equivalent in both places where engine front cover meets cylinder head and install valve cover onto cylinder head.
Install new spark plug bore to valve cover gaskets (6584). Use of sealant on gaskets is not required.
Position and, using a suitable adhesive, glue new valve cover gasket into valve cover.

So, u can use the sealant but its not required? If its that big a deal, I will just pull them off again and seal them up. Those covers are pretty rediculous to get off...... Thanks....

If they're rubber I wouldn't worry about it. It's more to hold them in place on the cover while installing from all that I have read. You can dab a bit of sealant on the corners of the gaskets and put them in the covers and let it set to hold in on.
Do put sealant where the front cover meets the head though.
The original part I posted about the sealant is for the 'donuts' on the spark plug tubes.

Yeah I dint put any sealant at all. That rubber formed gasket fit in the covers real snug. I know that part is probaby ok but maybe I will pull them back off and seal where it meets the top of the head. Thanks.

Ahhhhh I c what u are talkin about sealing it at the front of the heads. I didn't know that there was an additional cover on the front of the heads. I was able to just lift the covers allitle in the fornt and seal em off. Okie. Thanks. I guess that's for if u drop ur wrench down there. Lol.
Any thoughts on that evr?

5.8-8.83 lb-ft...
You will need a smaller torque wrench it sounds like with lb-in on it.
What was your question on the EVR?

That evr. Is that it bolted to the driverside strut tower? I pulled that little filter out of it but it just fell apart on me.
Hey, thanks for your help.

I think were talking about the same thing (EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid.)
If the dealer doesn't have the filter anymore, then yes, grab one from the wreckers... ?!

Yeah, I'm just not sure if thats it or not.. Under the plastic cover on the strut tower (driverside Gen II) there is a little vacume thing with an electrical connector thing that I popped the cap off and there was this tiny filter in there that just fell apart on me when i took it out.
Also there os another vacume thing mounted on the driverside valve cover with 2 nuts. It has 2 vacume lines and an electrical connector as well. Plus this one has a bigger cap that spins. Does that have a filter in it as well?
Anyway, just trying to identify what it is that I messed around with... Thanks;)

Well, according to my chilton book, I have identified this as the EVR.
So there should be a filter under this big cap then... Now I just gotta figure out what I messed with on the driverside strut tower... Tiny filter in this small gadget.. This chilton book stinks....Plus its for like 5 diff models which makes it even worse....

Actually, I'm curious... what does that Chiltons book cover?
I could imagine they put all the MN12s under one title, but yours is the only one that came with this particular engine, suspension, and rear end. Otherwise, Thunderbird and Cougar, I take it?

Lincoln coups and sedans 1988-2000 repair manual
Covers all US and canadian models of continental mark vii mark viii and town car. 3.8 4.6 5.0
I gotta get a new book that just covers the mark viii. Also the 4.6 liter that they show is set up diff.. very confusing.
My haynes book for my mark vii is listed for 3 models but works great...
