Anybody have any inside on these bulbs?
I havent had any problems with my hid's yet. But when I do, is something like this ok? Does this solve the problem? Or is this some kind of cheap fix? Thanks ;)

i'm not knocking that guy or his hid's but i just bought a few sets of hid's for some first gen mark VIII's that i am converting and the kits come complete shipped to my door for $89.97, also, the seller has replacement bulbs sold in pairs for $22.95 granted i know the 2nd gen housings are different but the guy i buy from is willing to make an adapter ring for his kits to fit the 96 lsc housings and the 97-98 housings if someone sends him a bad factory bulb.

If it's the same guy, I bought an HID replacement set from him about 2 years ago, before Ford came out with a solution, but I haven't installed it yet. I bought it as a back-up plan, incase I had a low beam go out. His feedback is low, apparently due to some fake boot thing he got caught up in. I haven't heard or seen anything to indicate the lamp kit isn't what he claims it is. He used to also be on the LincolnvsCaddilac.com site. Might want to search there.

Or drop him a line via ebay and ask for references.

I do know you'll get what you order from him, based on my own experience only.

Edit: His screen name on LVC is: 04SSHD
You can email him at: hidsolutions@yahoo.com

No affiliation. Seems to have few, if any, complaints. Email him and he can give you a run down on what his kit includes.

Ford released a kit that comes with new housings to convert to regular 9005/9006 headlights. That is what you want to do when the time comes. You can't beat a $10 replacement bulb that is almost universally available, and the couple of members we have that have used that kit reported favorable results.

thats exactly what i will do when the time comes. Obviously im not looking foward to them burning out but on that same note, when they do, I want to have a quick solution to avoid too much down time with the car. Thats the rought that i will go with though, like you said. Sounds pretty cost efficient. Is there a big difference in quality between the hid and the ford conversion? what would it be then, halogen bulbs? thanks

from what i have heard about the new housings for the 2nd gen's is the light output feels like a gen 1. sure its a solution , they fixed a problem for the 2nd gen owners, but, going from hid's to incandescent bulbs again is going ass backwards. there are tons of aftermarket hid's out there, all you need to do is spend a weekend and make you own adapter rings. there is no way i would ever take my hid's out to replace with a standard bulb again. so far everything i hear on these new housings is crap and the light is very dim compared to the hid's. oh yeah and the price is insane too $600 some odd dollars you can buy an hid aftermarket kit for $100 bucks now.

Actually, the superior way to go would be to use an HID conversion kit on the halogen conversion kit. That way, at least you're getting the focal point close to correct - I've seen a car with those adapter rings and D2S bulbs and the light, quite frankly, sucked.

yeah but japan import shop doesnt have a kit that will fit 97-98 housings. he told me if i can come up with a burnt out factory hid bulbs, he can make an adapter ring so his kits will work in the 97-98 housings and the 96 lsc housings.

I'll keep this in mind Jamie...I think I'm about to loose a bulb on my 97. When I do, I'll get in touch with you and we'll send it to him.

OK, I've been running the OEM Ford/Sylvania halogen conversion kit since late November of last year. I've seen a clouded over/burned reflector Generation I at night and it is pretty sad and dangerous. No comparison whatsoever between that and the new conversion. The new lights are comparable to a Town Car or Continental (without clouding, thank you.)

The close-up spread pattern on the HID was a little better, hey they're fluorescent. But the "down the road" lighting is superior on the halogen, and the high beams are wicked just as they were on the old HID housings (same bulb!)

There is no conflict with the message center, as this was factory designed for the car. They look identical, the only difference is inside the housing pertaining to the new bulb.

If anyone wants to see pictures, see my thread "collision repair and halogen retrofit kit" in the archives.

It's funny, I said the same thing almost verbatim on a headlight thread here early last year. Since then, having read a couple of peoples' positive reviews and finally seeing the results for my self, I gotta say I'm impressed.
