View Full Version : Low Fuel Pressure?

So I recently got a fuel pressure gauge and hooked it up to the schrader valve, and I've come up with some not so normal readings.

I get around 24-25 psi at idle with vacuum, about 31-32 psi without. Here's what I thought was weird though: when I turn the car off, the pressure slowly climbs to about 32 psi. I thought it would vent the pressure off slowly if anything, not climb.

I haven't got a chance to test the pressure under load yet, I'm waiting for the correct fittings to come in.

Would a weak fuel pump cause low fuel pressure at idle? Or should I be looking somewhere else? And any ideas on the fuel pressure rising after the car is shut off?

Well, it's FPR or the fuel pump... but the simplest solution is usually the correct one: how old is your fuel filter?

Definitely change the fule filter if you don't know how old it is. When I changed the one in my old 95, I couldn't even blow through the damn thing.

Fuel filter was replaced about 12k miles ago when I got the car, so I'm kind of doubting it could already be clogged, but it will be getting changed anyways. The fuel pump, however, is probably still the stock one and there's 113k miles on the car.

Is there any way to test to see if it's the fpr?
