Very sad. I still remember the day I traded my first car in. I was happy as can be that day but looking back now I wish I had never gotten rid of it. I miss her more everyday. It was a 2.3L 79 Mustang.

I guess we get attached to our cars!
22 years later Im still sad about selling my 72 Eldo, even tho Im not a GM guy.
BTW, I learned how to drive and drive a stick on my buddies 79 Stang. Way back in 83 and I was 16 yo, really thought I was hot s**t driving it around. I remember it had huge gold wheels in the back, and jacked up, flat navy with lighter blue interior. Shortly after he traded it for a 85, new body style, BIG mistake too.

Mine was metallic shit brown err copper.;) Even had the $80 wire hubcaps until I polished up and threw a set of Turbo Coupe wheels on her. That was the first car I did a motor swap in. 4 cyl, 4 spd stick. Even had the wonderfully faded red interior.:D I paid $900 for it, drove it a while, my grandma backed into the driver's door, I never got the timing quite right (I didn't have a timing light then), and still got $500 trade in for it. That excited me to no end at the time. Now I know how dumb I was. I have never seen another 79 4 cyl since. Only the Cobra's that they want an arm and a leg for and they are few and far between.

well i hope the new owner and his "partner?" are enjoying the car today. i also made him sign a contract stating that he is liable for the car and that ther is no warrenty expressed or implied, just in case he wrecks it before he gets it on insurance, so i cannot be held liable. we took my dads car to my sister 3 hours away becasue she needed it for summer school, so now we are down to 2 cars here at home with 3 drivers so i get stuck without a car.

Mine sold to a nice couple from Providence RI, I cried when they took her away, but I am enjoying my new-to-me car, a 2000 323i sedan 5 speed, I average 27mpgs which has cut my fuel costs in half. But nothing rides like a BIG heavier car. Eventually or probably after I graduate from college in the spring of 09 I WILL buy an additional smoothie-mobile to cruise around in when I want to.

first cars are always the hardest to let go, i still remeber the times i had in my 87 accord. taught me how to drive stick (hell the only non-manual trans vehichle i've ever owned was my TC) and damn if that back seat could tell stories! hell i'd of had here for alot longer if it wasn't for the fact i tottaled her. but IMO it was fo rthe best because my next car, my 1992 prelude, got me into racing cars as well as working on them myself and modifying them. damn if i don't miss that one even more. i sold her last summer after 7 years, 15,000 bucks, 3 engines, and who knows how many days at mid-ohio and other tracks.

well i have been without a car for 2 days becasue my parents have been taking my saturn to work. but it really nice to be averaging 32mpg in my 1.9L 5 speed, i only learned to drive a standard with looking to buy the car. my friend and parents where suprised how fast i picked it up. after driving the saturn for a week i get in the town car to the take it to the potentional buyers, blaring Led zeppelin :), and out of habit at first i was using my left foot for the brake thinking it was the clutch. now we have 3 cars, all saturns, in my family and possibly getting another this summer.

2002 ls300 v6, 2005 vue v6, 2000 sl I4, and my dad is possibly looking at getting the v6 aura this summer. and i am the only one that changes my own oil and actually opens the hood to fix something.

You don't have to lie to us. We're family. We know you were doing a huge smoky burnout before letting her go.:p

I sometimes think it would be nice to have something small like that for the gas mileage but after seeing how they fare in accidents compared to larger vehicles, I'll stick with my Lincolns and pay a little more in gas for the extra safety.

i got that out of my system before i replaced the tires a few months back. new tires grip too good unless they have a coating of motor oil on them:D, not to mention the doughnuts/ drifting at the beach.:p.
it only gets twice the gas mileage and if i get into a wreck have good insurance through my mom's work, the gov. i have to wake up in 4 and 1/2 hours so :snooze:.

Great insurance only goes so far if you are crippled or worse. My ex's brother was in a crash quite a while back. He is 20 and will likely have to have a hip replacement before he's 30 because of the crash. Could have been much worse though. I have heard it's kinda hard to collect your insurance money if you aren't still breathing.

I like the idea of a motorcycle but I know me and I would have a crotch rocket and would be one of the idiots running down the highway at 90 on one wheel (probably the front one). I push the limits enough in cars. I know I wouldn't live through a motorcycle.

LOL!
I used to push the limits on these, even "three-wheeling" these (we had 3 like this) when I got the opportunity (Talk about G-Force!!") Oh, the stories I could tell :)

I sure as hell don't need a motorcycle. :)
Hard to believe a guy that drove grain trucks like a rally car, drives his Lincoln doing 53 in a 55 zone :) I'm the polar opposite when it comes ot my Townie. Pampered all they way! :woot:

FTR: Yes, it is possible to "3-wheel" these, albeit the tire goes about 3-4 inches off the ground at most, but I knew the limits of the truck. The wheel *could* have gone 8 inches off the ground if the feeling was desired. However, once it's 8 inches off the ground, there is no turning back. You're going over.

We all did dumb stuff as kids, and I know better than to even attempt that now. However ,it sure makes for some good story-telling

I understand about the Towncar. When I first got her, she was the quickest and largest car I had owned. Took me some time to get very comfortable behind the wheel so she was very pampered. After I got her down pat I started pushing the limits a bit more with time. Mostly just street racing light to light. Taken out many a Civic and other ricer and kept up pretty will with a camaro. He got me off the line but I was slowly reeling him back in when we let off. After that I got back into my slow/grandpa mode most of the time but I still give her hell on occasion. Gotta "blow the carbon out" every now and again. I think that's why I'm itching so bad to get my Mark done as I want it. She will be a beast when she hits the road again if everything goes according to plan.
