About 2 years ago, the hood on my 95 Mercury Grand Marquis would not shut properly. I looked at the underside of the hood and found stress cracks around the reinforced plate area that the latch passes through into the hood. I also checked my 96 Town car and found the same thing--both cars had the HD suspension. I installed large washers inside the hood and at the bottom of the latch for additional support. This worked but recently I saw a replacement part offered on eBay, a leftover recall part. Seems there was a secret recall for all GM, TC and Police Cars with heavy duty or touring suspension that have cracks in this area. When actual failure takes place, the hood flys open:eek: Both of these cars were sold and I will attempt to contact their new owners about this issue. Everyone should check their cars for this problem.
