So, on my way in tto work this morning I am cruising in and I jump to the passing lane and catch glimpse of this sexy rear of a vehicle and I immedialtely notice the two, lexus like, tail lights on this deep blue vehicle. I speed us to see if it could possible be...? I As I get closer i notice the "MKS" stamped right on the arse so I pull up along side the thing w/georgia plates. Massive 20" wheels, a nice wheel base, and sleek exterior....forget what u heard ...in person this car is hott and sexy! The guy says he has brought the vehicle to MIlwaukee to show at all the Lincoln dealers...I ask for a personal show, but the guy replies I have to come to the dealer. as i glance the car over like the it's my first time in the strip club, I notice all the features we have seen and heard in the ads and on this board. This car is nice and may be a replacement to my m35. The mks will be at my local dealer 2morrow. I know where I will be spending my lunch!
just thought i'd share.

I remember in 84 me and a bud were coming back from a day in the river in an old slightly quick elcamino. I see in the rear view mirror this UGLY car coming up on us. We were in the left lane, and I was riding passenger. This UGLY thing pulls up next to us, with a(what I thought at the time, and now am) gray haired old man in it. He points ahead a couple of times, and I'm trying to get my bud to wake up and mash it.
The UGLYMOBILE got us, and as he pulled away I noticed that the plate said in little small letters on the bottom "Michigan Manufacturer".
Shortly after that up came this other UGLY van looking thing, with what was probably the last guys wife, Michigan manufacturer on it too.
That's my first sightings of the Merkur Scorpio(which were turbo'd) and Ford Aerostar.

the aerostar was an ugly creation...surprised those things sold. goes to show there is a vehicle for everyone and somebody for every vehicle.

Well, the Aerostar WAS ugly but it had a truck chassis that was pretty tough and had lots of luxury features for the day and a few things nobody else had yet except Ford. I never understood the Scorpio or the XR4Ti, sorry.
What I can relate to here is the resistance to change. We are creatures of habit. My vehiclular aha moment happened when I was driving a huge 1979 Cougar and they introduced the "aero" Thunderbird and Cougar in '83. I remember thinking and saying how butt ugly they were, they were certainly a shock to anyone driving then-traditional cars. Guess what? I bought my second Cougar, which was a previously butt-ugly 1984...lol! I had to eat my words right up through the middle and late 1990's as I bought two more of these beasts before the Mark VIII
I think most of us see the MKS as a Town Car replacement, therefore we want to see a huge RWD sedan with a long hood. Well, that's not going to work, lol. We have to realize that the MKS is the future. Nobody's going to be building a limo or hearse on a MKS, but as for the intended use of the car it is having more room inside without wasted sheet metal outside. It will grow on us, it has to.

Heh, if ya could get past looking at them, just shut your eyes and get in, it wasn't so bad. They DROVE GOOD!:)
Far as your opinion about the early 80's cougars, tempo's, topazes, etc. I agree with your first impression, and still think they're butt ugly. While the styling on the Mark isn't my cup of tea, it's much better than those,(livable, aerodynamic too) and they RUN, and TURN, we won't talk about stopping...:) I've been around enough Mercedes that I kinda like the way they did things for years, if something LOOKED like _____________(wood, plastic, leather, vinyl, etc.) it WAS. NO FAKE BS. So the spare tire provision on the deck lid of the mark to me is hideous.
Just another one of Detroit's wonderful ideas.
Far as the MKS goes, haven't really looked, all the new lincoln stuff I've seen aside from the trucks aren't v8's, so don't care.

Sorry to hi-jack, but I just wanted to comment on the few mentions of Murker. The XR4Ti was a sports car and Scorpio a touring sedan, they were borught in from Europe's FoMoCo division to comptete with the growing market of euro/import cars that were slightly more than econoboxes, they were a very pleasurable car to drive, but were extremely hard to maintain if you didn't have money or do your own work, like the Marks, they were not a car for non-enthusiasts when they aged. I drove both of the, the XR and Scorpio, both were great cars that were very euro and high quality and feeling but shared just enough Escort-like feel to keep me confident that this was a smaller Ford. Unfortunately by the time I was to have an opportunity to own one, the were slack in maintainence and would have turned into money pits soon after I realized I lacked funding to sink into rescuing a car.

that's Merkur, lol:)
I approached the introduction of the Zephyr (MKZ) with an open mind and will do the same with the MKS too. I'm excited to see something from Ford with this much sizzle, I really am. Nobody's going to trade in their LS460 or S550 for one, I'm sure, but it is still a nice car that's going to turn heads and change minds.
