it started when i would mash the gas to the floor. it wouldnt shift into a higher gear after that. i would have to pull over shut the car off and start it back up and the problem would be fixed. the gas pedal would physically get soft and the car wouldnt shift.

now it seems to be stuck and wont fix itself by shutting the car off. the gas pedal is soft and is either stuck in first or second, im pretty sure first.

i was told there may be an adjustment on the kickdown cable or the cable itself might be bad. i think ive located it behind the intake but dont see any place for adjustment.

any suggestions?

thanks
Greg

Your TV bushing might be gone, dont drive the car until you inspect it or your tranny will toast itself if it hasnt done so already.
It is located under the TB next to the Throttle cable, attached to a lever.

I replaced the plastic bushing on the throttle assembly with the brass bushing from the ford dealer and it didnt do anything.

I noticed the tranny fluid was very low so I topped it off but it didnt change anything. could i have toasted the tranny? is there anything else i can check before have to do a tranny swap?

...the trans isnt leaking from what i can tell, there is no fluid on the ground, where is it going?

if i end up having to replace the trans im def doing the t5 swap!!!

Could be the cable way out of adjustment, and the pressure is stuck at max. What condition is the fluid in? If its black or sparkly, its dead.

the trans fluid was changed 5 months ago and it still looks very clean. Ill look for a tech article on how to adjust the cable, i think your right about it being way out of adjustment.

trans could be dead...especially if the tv cable was unhooked.
fluid would suggest this in poor condition.
The other possibility is missing gov, stuck gov, sticky valve body...

I do fully understand this - but lets say the bushing is shot & you only run the car on low revs max 1,500 & never in OD - shouldn't it last then?? You don't need very hi pressure here.

Drove my slant six Swinger without kick down rod one summer - due to 4-barrel install & totally different rod then, which I had to construct) - no problems at all (thus didn't kill the 904 tranny).

either the bushing is shot and the cable is hooked up or not...if not then we know why it is dead....if still hooked up, then we diagnose further starting with is it hooked up at the trans as well.

the tv bushing was in very good condition before installing the brass replacement. ill check the trans connection also.

Im assuming the valve body and gov are outside the trans case? should i just remove and clean them both?

its not a big deal, i have a hot 302 that is almost done being built that im hooking a t5 up to if i can find one relatively soon. I just dont like my mark messing with me!!!

I hear ya, that AOD will kick a T5 butt anyday you wanted it to.
ANyway, for sure check your connections...and yes you can remove the vb and gov to clean them....if you email me I can send you my packed of instructions I send with my custom built AOD valve bodies - it covers the topics.
