View Full Version : Baffled by solenoids...

I replaced the whole air suspension on my 88 Blass....last year ..bags solenoids compressor and dryer...

For a while everything worked great.....but as of late ...it seems none of the solenoids will let air into the bags...

Car is basically bottomed out...

Checked pressure at compressor..90 Psi

Pulled air lines out of each solenoid....got a blast of air..from each one.

Is their a separate electrical circuit that controls these solenoids...

Just seems like all the solenoids will not open to accept air..

If it was only one..it would be easy to troubleshoot ...but all at once..

Just need some suggestions..

Thanks in advance..

Try running the Diagnostic sequence as shown in the Tech Section Tab above. This should isolate trouble areas.

I'm not totally sure, but I believe the compressor should put out more than 90 lbs. to raise the car. Someone else will know for certain. Could be it's running, but just weak/worn out.

In addition to the Tech Section Here, another place for general information about our suspension systems is this link:

well besides your solenoid problem if you ever have problems from your airbags leaking put the slime fix a flat stuff in them i did that and drove my first 88bb like that for over 2 years and never had a problem outta them leaking again :D

I'm pretty sure you need more than 90 lbs. when my compressor failed I use to add air at the schrader valve to bring the suspension up. the suspension would not come up fully because my shop compressor does not get above 100lbs. I replaced the compressor in the car and no more troubles.
check with all american air suspension they are real helpful.

Thanks in advance...

Before you go much farther, pull off the cover of the dryer and spray soapy water around the 4 line connections. If the o-rings are leaking the air can't get to the bags.

I got all the bags up by using the schrader valve....so am I correct to assume the brand new compressor and dryer are at fault............

The stock compressors are barely sufficient, sometimes they simply can't pick all 4 corners of the car up. If there are any leaks at all around the drier to compressor connection, or around the lines where they go into the drier, forget it. Leaks at the solenoid connections will also cause you problems. You can check for leaks with some soapy water. If there are bubbles, you got leaks. I'd run it for a while with it aired up. If it keeps the system pumped up and doesn't seem to have issues leveling it out, call it good.

Yes, you need 120 psi to lift the front and 80 for the rear.
