my mark VII is completly stock, with the exception of the exhaust, i was wondering if it would be worth it to convert to MAF because ive heard that Mass Air Flow gives you
1. better power
2. Better Fuel economy
and
3. Is not that expensive

ive read the tech article, and ill admit, it looks tedius, but all im wondering is if its worth it?

any help or advice will be appreciated
thanx

Short answer - no.
Until you have made major modifications to heads, intake and cam (especially cam duration) there is no benefit at all.
You would lose your cruise control as well (and horn ground), unless you 'piggy back' with the existing 'puter.

+1 Yup.... leave it be. Don't fix it if it isn't broken.

Since I got my '92, (October 3rd will be two years) my highway gas mileage has topped out at 24.3 mpg (without the A/C) and 22.3 (with the A/C) my local/city gas mileage is always around 18 mpg.

You really won't get anything better than that unless you live in a "flat" state with all of your driving being on highways and red lights and stop signs 30 miles apart. [if ya catch my drift] ;)

Be ecstatic with what you're getting!:D

It's a 4,000+ pound car, that's good. It's considerably better than a lot of lesser vehicles get. Case in point, the wife is wanting a replacement for her 180,000 mile Escort wagon. I brought home an Escape since she seemed to like the taller body for more room for the dogs. Drives decent, handles OK but everybody I talked to that has one and the service manager at my Ford store all report 20-21 mpg, or less depending on driver.
Keep the Mark in good tune and drive steady you are ahead of the game.

mass air might give you an extra mpg on a stock engine, but you'll lose cruise control. It will not give you more power on a stock engine. Actually if you use a stock mustang 55mm maf, it will add a restriction to the intake tract that wasn't there with speed-density.

Mass-air isn't a performance upgrade, it supports performance upgrades. If your car gets any more "oompf" by doing the conversion, it's more than likely coreecting something thats already at fault.

Keep you car in good tune; i.e. cap, roto, plugs, cables. No vacuum leaks, or shorted wires. O2 and other sensors, all filters are in excellent shape.

I actually get about 26 mpg from SOCAL to NORCAL, 451 miles. Use a premium oil throughout your drivetrain compleneted with premium grease in all bearings and fittings and you might notice a difference.
