I'm trying to remove them but not having much luck. The manual says to insert 12 inch thin, flat piece of stock into the (head rest post housing) sleeve in the front side of the post to release a clip. Anyone done this?

I have...... its a total PITA!!! but it can be done with a screwdriver through the lower part of the seat you have to unzip the upholstery and jam your arm up there and feel around

Very easy, unzip the back side of the seat cover, and go in with a flat head, be careful not to damage the Lumbar bladder or rim leather. You have to move the retaining clip over. Very easy once you do it a few times.

I don't seem to find a zipper on my seats. They are the "articulated sport seats".

push your seat back forward like you are going to get in the back ,
the zipper is on the bottom of the seat back between the top and bottom halves of the seat Once you have done it once or twice it does get easier

Ah!!! 86-89 had zippers. 90-up cars have Ziploc type of couplers. Not Zippers!

Yes, there is no zipper on my '91, and yes, the manual says to use a slim jim type tool to release the spring loaded gizmo holding the head rest in place.

I used the oil dipstick once...with the headrest NOT all the way up, just before the notch - shove the dipstick down the backside of the headrest poll - that last 1/2" with pliers get it to move the clip, then yoink!
