...and telling myself, "so what?" If it wasn't for that recessed cowcatcher grill, I'd swear I was looking at an Acura. It's very bland and un Lincoln like. It's one thing to do the walkaround of an MKS sitting, nicely polished, in a dealership under powerful track lights but another to see it drive passed you without a flinch from you or a "what was that car?" type response. Maybe it's just me though.

True, we just had the opportunity to impound one... not that impressive and the rear of the car sits way too high-like it is in heat or something

I agree. It looks, as I've said many times in the past, like something outta the Lexus camp.

To me it looks like the progression of what the taurus shaped conti would have turned into, it seems like an evolved version as it progressed through the LS, zephyr, mkz, now this... They were all very boring, un-individual cars, that were decent quality, but just not interesting. Lincolns nack for success has never been little suave cars for those who want a import for an american price. The few successes Lincoln has mustered have been brutally different, americanesque land aychts which scream "american dream" or hotrods with a small note of refinement just enough to sway the middle management guy who could have bought a sports car but really needed the horsepower to only fuel an ego so he chose the comfort of a compromise. Which is why most Lincoln buyers are OLD people who are not car enthusiasts, and this is why the trend isn't changing. If you think about it in this light you can see why people like us are really bored with the cars we have been seeing form our old friend Lincoln, we here at LOL are the niche market of people who appreciate lincolns as more than just an excuse to say we own a luxury marque. Just so happens if a company were to dedicate designing for our niche it would go broke, the people who buy Lincolns are doing it to get a copycat of a more expensive car. I realize the designs are vastly different but if you ask me they were all very similarly made; ford trying to copy instead of pioneer, playing catch up instead of setting the bar. An MKS isn't all that different from the acura the same way the LS was similar to a many other europeanesque semi-premium luxury car. If you ask me this is the ends to the means, Lincoln has always just been one step short, doing the things a many other car makers were doing already, or did and already moved on to new.

I agree. Several of the residents of the retirement community work at own them (lol) They like it, but I have to agree. Taillights are far too high in the air. Looks ugly from the rear. Front end is ok, but I'd sooner buy a Town Car. Maybe that's just me though :)

The town car is your preference, these are whole different cars and are different markets, you would much rather have a town car because you have different opinions and taste of cars in general. The reason why you dislike the MKS design is much different than the reason why someone who like this genre of cars dislikes the MKS. The same way i'd rather have a Mark VIII than a civic is the same reason you'd rather have a TOwncar than an MKS, not that you'd rather have the acura mthan the MKS.

It's not that I dislike it, but, if I was on the market for a nice car, this wouldn't be in the top 5. I'm definitely not opposed to owning one, however. It's an ideal size for me, and looks kind of sporty, which is a plus. This would be my second car, if I was to buy one. Save the Town Car for everyday driving, and this one if I felt a little sporty. I just prefer the size and comfort of a car to it's "sportiness". ;)

That's what I was trying to get across, that your style is less of this genre, and as far as buying an MKS you could take it or leave it. I agree, and it is pretty sad when the people who ARE in the market for this type of car feel EXACTLY the same.

Speaking for myself, there is much to like about that car. I followed one on the freeway a couple of months ago and it does in fact look as sweet in motion as it does sitting still. It is a technological tour-de-force as well as a very capable machine. All that and good looks too. :)
I have only one gripe regarding the MKS.... I can't afford a car payment, especially the payment on a $40K-$50K car.

I think it looks nice. Lincoln has to reinvent itself. Look at Cadillac, they found their new Image, now its Lincolns turn. It could have been a lot worse. I am actually surprised they came out with something that good.

Loud is entirely correct, we are such a small cross-section of the Lincoln market that they would indeed go broke designing cars that we would like. Consider this: how many LoL members have actually bought a car new from a Lincoln dealer? That is the market they are designing for.
What is selling right now is Lexus and Acura. Lincoln recognized that those two companies are selling cars in their market, and took notes based on their success. In order to try and mimic that success, they mimicked the cars. Since people are buying Acuras and Lexi, Lincoln is making one just like them!
I kinda like it. It's grown a lot on me seeing it in person.

Without really undercutting the price to give some 'hey look over here' advantage. Ford's marketing sucks too.
And I think the MKS' technology is mesozoic compared to the Acura and Lexus :)
