View Full Version : Remember the AIRBAG Light thing?

Well, now it blinks 5 times and then once. It used to be 3 and 1 or 1 and 3. So something is different. All the rest of the lights are off now. Well, once in a while the CHECK SUSPENSION comes on, but then stays off after I restart the car.

Thanks for any help

Matt

Are you asking about the Air Suspension or the Driver Airbag?

well, if it was a 13, you have an open or shorted crash sensor.
If it was a 31, you have a bad clockspring, or short in the wiring from the clockspring to the monitor.
Now that you have a 51, your monitor fuse is blown, but the monitor is no longer detecting the short, so, you have to get it right, which was it, 13 or 31?, then and only then can I help you.
Right now, your air bag will not work.......;)

It was a 3 and a 1, I believe and I replaced the clockspring. Now, my horn and cruise control work, and the flashing has changed to a 5 and 1, and repeats indefinitely..............so my airbag will not work if in an accident I assume. Also, my brake accumulator turns on and pumps every other time I hit the brakes, so I know that this needs replaced as well....

Thanks for quick responses again

Matt

p.s. - I bought another Mark VII for a parts car and am thinking maybe it is too good to part out. It is also a 1992 Mark VII, but a Bill Blass, 156,000, forest green with tan guts, factory cd, factory phone, factory sunroof. Needs front clip and tranny.......................also has the same 5 and 1 blinking light in the dash, but no lights are on.

you need an AIR BAG monitor, internal fuse is blown and not repairable. Good luck finding one in a junk yard;)

Thanks Fordace. I know you had told me before where this monitor is, and I looked but could never find it. It's inside the car behind the glove compartment????? I must be looking at the wrong thing. Maybe a picture would clarify it. Then if I can find TWO Mark VII's.........there has to be another car that has this same monitor..........

thanks

Matt

you know, now I'm not sure if you need a new monitor, I know the monitor is behind the glovebox, above the light in there. They are usually blue, but the 90 Mark's had a back-up battery module also, and it was behind the radio....anyone lese know this answer?
I'm thinking maybe there is a replaceable fuse in the back-up battery supply. Did you check fuses 10 and 18 first to see if they were blown ??

I have never checked the fuses, but I will look at 10 and 18 to see...............

The monitor and the backup battery are both up under the dash, if you're lucky you will see them after you take out the glovebox. They are a real pita. I had trouble removing them from a dash I had already removed from the car.

This is why I haven't gotten too serious about fixing the airbag problem in my '91.

Here is the location of the back up power supply and module.

They are pretty easy to get to.

Thank you so much, Art. I had never seen that article before and it is exactly what I was looking for. BTW, did you happen to have a car in the Hot Rod Power Tour this year?

My pleasure, Matt.
Nah, I was in the "Didn't feel like paying rediculous gas prices so I mostly stayed home" tour.

I had four cars here though:
