Every time I start my car the trip minder (where the clock is at) starts beeping and wont quit. I tried every Lincoln dealer in town but none have the book on how to set the damn things, so it still is beeping. How can I stop it?
Also my speedo needle swings back and forth like a pendulum, wont register any speed. Anybody got a fix for these ?

The member who stated how to fix the wipers so they would drop back to the parked position by cleaning the ground; I tried that and they still stay half way up the window when I shut them off. The previous owner put in a new motor before I got the car and they worked fine till one day they just started stopping at mid window. Anybody else got a fix for this?

Probably DTE function, press clock (or any button) to stop beeping for that key on cycle.
Try message center tuneup in tech section.
Do wipers stop as soon as you turn them off or continue to the mid point and then stop?
If they stop right away then wiper switch that is part of motor assembly is probably at fault. If they continue to the mid point then wiper blades are not indexed to the botom of window

Wipers: Remove BOTH wiper Arms from the pivot. Run the wipers for two or three complete cycles without the arms attached. Then re-attach the arms and run the wipers again to see if they seat on the plastic retainers on the cowl. If that doesn't work you could have a bad cam in the motor OR you have a bad MFS (Multi Function Switch) and that will have to be replaced.

I had the DTE beep also, I had to replace the little circuit board on the back of the fuel gauge

I was able to fix mine by cleaning that. Mine would go from 000 to 999 and spaz constantly. A bit of sanding on the contacts and it's good as new.

at 130 km/h = just + 80 mph - this is a 1989 M7 sold new in Saudi without cats.

I don't seem to get the beep away.

Do your cars also beep at High Speeds?????????

seems like mine usually just does it when I first start the car,and sometimes just a few minutes later. don't know about high speed, the only time I go over 65 is at the drag strip

I got tired of pulling out the instrument cluster to clean the contacts. To eliminate the beeping "DTE 0" I sodered wires between the small circuit board and the main circuit board. problem solved.

My 91 has the speedo problem. Have not gotten to the bottom of that one. It seems to be affected by engine rpm, but has no rhyme or reason why or when it acts up.

My DTE problem was fixed my changing the trip computer itself, with buttons and everything. I actually got an 88 unit and just changed the brains<circuit board, since the buttons on my 92 are little different.

In my 88 car, same problem was solved when I changed the 85mph cluster to a 90 and up 120 MPH cluster. <-- in that case the fuel circuit behind the fuel gauge must have been bad.

I would take the trip computer out, clean the contacts with a contact cleaner. Do the same with the cluster. Start with that.

My solution was to first unplug it, place it on the shelf, install oil pres., temp., and boost gauges, LEDs for alarm and low oil, and presto no more beeping...:D
I miss the clock, but the boost gauge alters the space time continium anyway, so it's irrelevant. ;)

Tony T: If I push the clock button twice, the beeping stops. But it doesnt seem kosher that the center beeps every time you start your car. The wipers now. Since I bought the car, they have always returned to park position no matter where they were when I shut them off. They just started parking at mid window in the last few months.

Hizhonor: Are you talking about the turn signal/wiper lever? (multifunction switch?) if not, where is it located?. I tried the arm removal first off, knowing how my T-Bird use to do the same thing. Watched the shafts for the stop and park return maneuver but they just stopped cold. I have just found a wad of wires and a multi plug connector stuffed up above the a/c vent. from the length of the wire, there is a module missing or something that mounts around the fuse panel. The Emergency Brake is junk too, broken/twisted all to hell. I need to replace it.

h r lincoln: thats what I am doing now to shut it odd, short of pulling the fuse!

92LSCKID : In the midst of the summer heat here in Phoenix, (118+) usually after I am on the freeway for a few minutes, the speedo starts acting ok; soon as I pull to a stop, back to swinging back and forth again. Wonder if it could be a loose ground somewhere?

Dave 92 LSC : I pulled out most of the dash when I put in my new Kenwood Multiplayer, and now I dont have half of my dash lights working. Thats another puzzle I need to work on. I half to park it anyway, getting hard to stop with the ABS acting up.

thanks all for the suggestions. now I have some work to do while I try to find a ABS Accumulator, ABS Pressure switch and ABS relay to see if I can get brakes without robbing a bank. I sure cant afford to buy a new pump/motor etc., for my 90' LSC.

Yes, the turn signal switch. If that's the problem, remember, you can only use one out of another '90 or an '89. In '91 and '92 they changed a bit. Also, I got your e-mail and I'm sorry to say, the ABS Accumulator was sold.

well mine was doing this,i just removed the power wire(yellow i think)(on a 92) to the beeper. and as far as the wipers, there is a park module, under the dash,on the lh side, under the headlite sw,if i remember.might ck that.

Pete.....

That park module wouldn't be about the size of a pack of smokes would it, and black plastic with a circuit board inside? Is it mounted via a couple of metal tabs just behind the knee panel, below the headlight switch?

If so, I found it and you may have solved the problem; when I first removed the knee panel to get access to the fuse block, I removed a module to see better. Since then, the wipers haven't parked. I will go out and clean the contacts and try re plugging it back in. Crossing my fingers that it will solve my wiper trouble.
