View Full Version : Whats an EM switch?

I have been reading a lot lately trying to figure out whats wrong with my ABS brakes. After a dozen or so system checks I now read something about the EM switch, if faulty or failed, will activate the red Brake dash light. This true? My emergency brake is wired up under the dash! Its busted all to hell and I don't remember seeing any wires going to or coming from anywhere on it.

There is a fistful of lose wires with connectors on the ends, that are jammed up under the dash above the EM and behind the Dash cluster. I am pretty sure I am missing a module or something cause most of my dash lights are non functioning and the overhead console is dead as a mackerel.

I can get the EM parts right down the street free. Could this be why my brakes are acting up?

I also cannot get the pump motor to come on either. I pumped the brake pedal 100 times then turned on the ignition key to see if it would come on. It didn't and hasn't yet.

You have to much of an issue with the wiring for any real help.
Need to get wiring or a shop manuel as a place to start because it gets too complex to help on somthing like this, from the board.
Basicly a complete brake system with no issues will sense low pressure and power the pump to run to high limit shutdown.
In doing so, the red and yellow lamps will be lighted until the pressure is up.
The wiring involves main power feeds, module, pump, relays and some other hardware.
The fluid reserviour and Emg brake off normal switch will also light the red lamp independently if the circuits are complete.
There are only 2 lamps to tell you about brake system malfunction as well as in what combinations and actions you see them take.
Until you can get it all in place and hooked up it will be a trying situation.
Good luck.

+2 Smokee. Do a search for all the brake-related posts that Bluegrass has done, that will give you a lot of info on how to diagnose your brakes.
