If I remove the cat, will I get better performance?
Have any of you done it?
thanks

not really. The other smog controls do more to mess you up than the converter. What motor do you have? Both the 460 and the 400 had pretty low compression in 78, as well as a pretty lousy camshaft. There is power in there but it takes more than just pulling a converter to get at it.

unless the converter is plugging up, there isn't too much to be gained. however, removing it and going to a better full exhaust system will give you some more power, and possibly better mileage. 2.5'" full duals will make a difference.

The stock converter is pretty lousy, it necks down in diameter and is probably a terrible honeycomb design compared to newer models.
I removed mine after going to a good set of heads and a nice cam, but I doubt it will do much on a stock motor...other than screw with the environment. ;)
