Hi all, I plan on using my refund check to do some preventative maintenance on the car, but this popped up rather recently.

Sometimes, not all the time, when I click the M/F switch wiper section to the lowest setting, the wipers will not turn on. I have to click it to high, then all the way back, and they work fine. Also, sometimes, if they work fine, and I click the thing to off, the wipers will go down the the "resting" position, but not the concealed position. Once, they didn't work at all, and after giving the swithc a workout, they worked fine. The switched was replaced with a dealership unit around a year and a half ago. Am I looking at a new M/F switch, or perhaps the governor for the wipers is messing up, or...?

I have a Service Manual, but second opinions are always nice.

I have had nearly 10 Ford wiper motors by now so....

It's the motor !!!!! I had to replace the wiper motor on a Sunday morning in DRIVING rain 170 miles from home last summer on the Townie. Was exhibiting all sorts of symptoms, not parking right, stopping but then you could get them to go again...

The multiswitch has a great diagnosis procedure in the factory CD can be 100% tested with a digital multimeter.

Alas looks like the Dealership only sells rebuilt wiper motor units now

Description Year MSRP Price Core Price Your Price Wiper motor assy 90-94 $109.06 $30.00 $59.98

Fantastic. Oh well, doesn't appear to be too much of a PITA to fix. Wish it was bolted right to the firewall away from everything, like my truck though :D

Probably a good opportunity to clear the leaves (if any) out of there and clean the EGR too.

Is that a any dealership price, or a specific website?

That was TASCA Ford in RI, which has among the best prices I have found. I was getting some from the west coast but shipping is cheaper/faster from RI to Mass.

FWIW I would just get a lifetime warranty rebuilt unit from a local store vs getting a rebuilt unit from Ford, as you would have to ship the core back etc.. and no warranty?? If new ones were available I know you would get one :D

I got mine from VIP auto parts in Augusta ME, seems like a good unit works great so far. But then I had to choose from somewhere I could drive to with the wiper transmission in the trunk and also had one in stock on a Sunday Morining

this might help on prices a little, advance auto parts, and pepboys do sell remanufactured ford parts, they are alot cheaper and your getting the same part as you would at a dealership. for example i recently got a power steering pump from advance it turned out to be a rebuilt ford pump, and had ford and a ford part # stamped on it. goodluck!
