I finally figured out what was causing the nasty metal-on-metal sound with my '91 TC 4.6L, and it was the tensioner pulley that's all messed up. The pulley is angled towards the block. Would anyone have a good one to send my way? If you have a good used serpentine belt as well, I'd also be interested. Thanks, Eric (ewojcieszak@yahoo.com).

Here's the pic, if anyone had question as to location. Thanks, Eric.

Why not make a trip to your local parts store?

You don't usually have to replace the entire tensioner assembly. The pulley/bearing alone can be replaced.

Gates Part Number 38006
Dayco Part Number 89007
Factory Air Part Number 45979

Pick up a belt while you are there. Motorcraft P/N JK7-863B

I have one, stored in the attic of my folk's place. Its old, with 100,000 miles on it, but the bearings are quiet and nothing was wrong with it when I took it off. Its for a 4.6L Mark VIII, but cross reference the part numbers and I bet it'll be the same part for both cars.

PM me if interested. I'll sell it for cheap, tell me how much you were looking for.

I'll be checking out AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts and NAPA shortly. Sure glad the problem happened close to home.

My '91 has been sitting since May, while I've been using other cars for transportation. The old pulley did its damage to the bearing and stud part where the bolt screws into the tensioner, so there's no chance to use the existing tensioner.

Would anyone have a good used tensioner to send my way? I went to Pick-N-Pull just on the IL border with WI, and had my complete unit, but didn't have my ratchet set with me, and couldn't remove the lowest of the three bolts. Two days later, I returned to realize it had been scrapped--bleepity, bleep, bleep. No other cars had the single pulley tensioner setup. Please let me know. Thanks, Eric (ewojcieszak@yahoo.com).
