Here's the rundown.

www.siaelec.com
I sent to SIA Electronics a complete unit I had removed from my car several years ago when the accumulator died.

Talked to Kevin a couple of times, and he seems personable and sounds like he knows what he is doing.
I also expressed my need for a quick turnaround as the Power Tour is coming up (FAST).
He said most units turnaround within 48 hours, but would take care of mine same day....which he did.

I get the unit, install it and hit the road.
Almost 2 hours of putting it through the wringer. Worked great....until I got close to home and the pedal went rock hard and both lights came on.

Called Kevin. He was sincerely concerned and wanted that unit back rather than me send my other spare.

He did another same day turnaround. In talking to him he mentioned the pressure switch was giving bad readings. He said definately replaced the pressure switch and pump this time.

The unit is back on the car and I have driven it a LOT. No issues so far. If I do have problems I will report.

It is my opinion that this company is a viable source to have our ABS units refurbed.
I would strongly suggest that you insist ALL ELECTRONICS ARE REPLACED and not just checked. I believe my misfortune arose from Kevin losing sight of the fact he had an 18 yr old unit in his hands and should have replaced everything the 1st time.

Have Fun.

Thanks for finding and trying this place out Armond, this is good info for those of us who dread the day the Teves m/c dies. :D

Yah. I spent the same, maybe just a little more, as a swap to vacuum brakes.....without all the splicing and dicing.

I'm assuming they just rebuilt the master cylinder. If so, what did they charge if you don't mind me asking?

$275 + shipping = $300.
Plus whatever it cost you to ship it to them.

Thanks! I've always wondered what I was going to do if/when mine went because I could never find a rebuilt or rebuilder. I've got a '91 LSC that I bought new that now has 170K on it and the m/c still works fine. I have replaced the accumulator twice, though, but that is it other than pads and rotors. Is it much of a job to remove/replace the m/c?

In my opinion it depends on how flexible you are and what part of the world you live in .
let me explain
To get to the bolts that hold the unit into the car is not really difficult with the right combination of extensions/swivels and a little yoga on your part
As far as what part of the world you live
If you live in the northern parts of the USA where they use road salt you may have an issue with the lines coming out of the bottom of the unit
Where I live rust is not really an issue and I changed out the unit in my car in about 2 hours total including bleeding it

In the big picture, not so big a job.
The bolts under the dash are difficult to reach, the brake lines can try your patience and you will have to bleed the brakes.

IF the brake lines have never been cracked you NEED a quality set of line wrenches.

Hypo is right. I have had the luxury of working on a car that had spent it's entire life in Texas. Your results may vary.

Awesome update!

Did they rebuild the whole unit? Including the accumulator?

I was about to put my old Teves unit up on ebay, but since you guys are the serious ones...

Accumulator is likely bad, as is the pressure switch...anyway, worked fine up until it went "hard pedal" a few weeks ago. I replaced everything with a vacuum booster and SVO m/c, so I no longer need this unit.

Anyone want it for, say, $50 plus shipping ? Oh, the resevoir cap is broken, everything else is in usable shape for a rebuildable core. 174,000 miles as far as I know.

I realize this isn't the classified section, but since we're here... :)

Definately a new accumulator, but I honestly have no idea what all else is done to it.

I want to be very clear that Kevin (rebuilder) and the lady "up front" were very pleasant to work with. I fully believe (because I always look for the good) that my initial misfortune was not due to deliberate shoddy work. I believe he is used to newer units that just checking electronics is OK. On our's everything needs to be replaced.

This is good to hear because I am thinking of sending my spare unit out for rebuilding.
