MKS info? (merged)

Lincoln fans:

Lincoln keeps teasing me on their website with the MKS (obviously the "S" stands for "sedan". Anyway, to my confusion. What is this rather eye-catching automobile? Is this the replacement for the Continental, or am I looking at a slightly refined Zephyr? (Dudes, you gotta LOVE that glass roof! WOW!)

I've noticed there's no stream on the MKS, and I've wondered about that, too. So what's the deal, guys? Is this a whole new product or just the Zephyr in new clothing?

Be gentle,

Rhett

MKS info? (merged)

Does anybody know any inside information about the MKS that's on the Lincoln website? Is this the "new, improved" Zephyr or something new (ie. replacement for the Continental/Mark series?) It looks like quite an automobile.

I can't seem to find out anything about it. What do you all know?

Thanks,

Rhett

Its basically a Ford Five Hundred with standard AWD, a Volvo/Taurus SHO/Yamaha 4.4L V8 making around 300hp, 6-speed auto, and hopefully will look similar to the concept you see on the website.

Whenever more concrete information pops up, it will get its own forum. It is not based on the CD3.

Totally different animal than the Zephyr/MKZ. Best info I have found on it says it is based on the five hundred platform and seems to be a replacement for the LS which is on it's way out the door. The MKS has a scehduled release date for sometime in 2008 but from what I have found that is not a concrete timeframe.

Ford is in such a state of flux, its pretty hard to say when it will happen.

Inside sources confirmed that the FWD version of this car has been canned. It will be AWD only.

I have heard the same about the FWD version myself. I think the car is really sharp looking and would be a good replacement for the LS but I can imagine it is not going to make the LS faithful very happy.

Its gonna upset both the LS and the Town Car crowd. Both fans will be displaced come 2007, it might be a rough year for Lincoln.

A MKZ with AWD and a manual transmission would go far to bridge the performance car gap. Hopefully the Town Car faithful will find the Grand Marquis good enough.

Isn't the Grand Marquis on the chopping block in the near future as well? Figured it would be since it also shares the platform with the TC but I am not sure since I haven't bothered reading anything about them.

No the Marquis is still around because it isn't made at the (closing) Lincoln factory. Crown Vics and Grand Marquis are still planned for production through 2009. At least for now.

The TC could be made at that factory, but noooo...it ain't gonna happen.

If that MKS doesn't show up when the TC goes away, its gonna be one rough year for Lincoln. One sedan and three trucks ain't gonna cut it.

It will definitely be dificult for Lincoln to survive with only 1 sedan. They better pick something up before dumping those models like they are planning.

Well, there goes my ALREADY crappy resale value...

That is correct.

And thanks for the insight guys. I'd have figured they wouldn't leave a gap with only one sedan being offered, but apparently I gave Ford too much credit.

I expect Town Car values to fare better once Wixom closes and the loyal buyers look for clean examples of the final product. The same is true of the Lincoln Blackwood, Mercury Marauder, Chevy Impala and Cadillac Brougham, so the TC will probably follow suit.
