1999-2002 Continental: Luxury Appearance Packages

1999-2001 Continentals: Just to set the record straight, the L.A.P. (Luxury Appearance Package) was the only factory trim package above the regular Continental. LAP was a mid-year addition for an additional $1,095. It included:

1. Wood-trimmed steering wheel, not matching the dash/door wood trim
2. Wood Trimmed shift knob (exists only on paper?)
3. Unique two-tone seat trim, darker seat inserts in a pleasant shade to match the tan or gray interior. The Continental star sewn on the seats had the same contrast
4. Unique floor mats with the Continental Star sewn on them
5. 6-spoke chrome alloy wheels, very flat and clean design
6. Unique Chrome grille "hat" and argent painted teeth
7. Mandatory bucket seats and floor shifter

2002 Continentals: A similar C.E. (Collector's Edition) was offered for Lincoln's last year of Continental production. The CE was about the same price as the LAP Continental, and offered:

1. Unique walnut burl wood trim with matching wood-trimmed steering wheel.
2. Wood Trim on front doors had a "CE" foil overlay
3. Wood Trimmed shift knob
4. Unique two-tone seat trim, with "preferred" suede inserts to match the "milled pebble" leather interior. Both tan and grey interiors were offered. I've only seen the tan.
5. Unique floor mats with "CE" sewn on them
6. 10-spoke chrome wheels that are the same as the base Continental's 10-spoke aluminum wheels
7. Mandatory bucket seats and floor shifter
8. Unique Chrome grille "hat" and platinum painted teeth
9. New "Shiva" carpet (whatever that means)

Don't ask me why Ford didn't spend the money to spell "Collector's Edition" on this model, apparently CE was good enough. Here's a Ford press photo for the 2002 CE...incorrectly shown with the LAP's argent grille.

aha! That's what it was! I wasn't far off, just about ten years and in a sister division's vehicle...lol! (1996 Cougar.)

It's too bad they didn't match the wheel to the woods in those, the birds eye maple on the Continental was gorgeous to say the least. The ones with that appearance package really stand out when you see them on the street, mostly due to the unique grille, I like them much!
