2003 TC will not even try to start. PATS?
I have a 2003 TC Signature that ran fine one day and the next wouldn't start. It will not even try to click the starter. You can hear under hood relays click but that's it. All other things work. When you insert the key, the dash LED flashes rapidly. The door chimes normal and after that there are three chimes of a different pitch from under the dash while LED flashes rapidly. I have installed a remanufactured PCM with programmed keys and it made no difference. I have checked ALL relays and fuses. It has a new starter and will crank over if you jump the solenoid. Tonight, I took off the PATS Transceiver ring from the ignition switch, but the parts store does not carry this item. I plan to check the salvage yard tomorrow for one. It is my understanding this is the third piece to the PATS system. I am really at a loss. This is a nice car but I don't want to spend a fortune on it chasing down an electrical issue. Have any of you dealt with this issue before? |

Well I can hear it cycle, but we're not to that point yet! The starter won't even engage to turn the engine over. I believe the PATS system is telling it not to.

How would that result in the engine not cranking?

Your first step should have been to check for 12 volts at the starter signal wire while holding the key in the crank position. Guessing will only cost you money, but will not solve your problem.

Well the only dealings I’ve had with PATS was in my 98 cobra. It went bad. But in that car I wanna day it killed the fuel pump if I remember correctly. The car would just crank and crank but no start. But like you mentioned if you replaced the pcm and keys then you will need the key ring to match. I believe it all has to be programmed to match. I dunno about the Towncar but I just had that feature turned off in my tune for my cobra.

I'm facing the exact situation (dead 2003 with remote starter and totally no starter action) and was into the electrical things, until I noticed that the shifter was in PARK and I could push the car with no effort!!!
That means the transmission wasn't in park and that's why it wasn't starting. A quick view showed that the transmission shift cable had rotted out at the transmission shift cable and was just hanging there. Might not be the problem, but its easy to check and if its off there is no way its going to start (or drive). |

Just wanted to follow up....it ended up being the Transceiver ring that goes around your ignition. It reads the key and tells the PCM it's correct. $3 at the local salvage yard and it fired right up!!!
