Crud on Chrome Around Rear Window

Does anybody know how to clean up the mess that builds up on the plastic chrome around the back window. I have seen it on TCs from 1990 to 1997. All eventually seem to get this stuff. Any input is highly appreciated.

Thanks

Well, it's just the original plastic over the "chrome" that has gotten old and cracked from the sunlight.

Just get a hobby knife, and run it down both edges around the brown trim, it'll all come off, and look much better.

That's what I did, going on 2 years ago now.

I appreciate the post.

Are you saying I should pull off the platic that is over the chrome off? I would like to know more details before I take a knife to my car If you could explain it in more detail.

If anybody has experience with this I wouldn't mind hearing about it.

Sure.

Look at the back window "chrome. It's a thin silver "chrome" strip, and on either side is a thin black plastic, that separates it between either the window glass, or the rest of the rubber seal. If some parts of the plastic is a very dark yellow, you can probably just press down on it and crack it. Well, for the rest, I just used a thin hobby knife. Carefully press down between the edge of the black strip and the silver "chrome" on either side and run it the full length around the rear window. It will NOT make it leak water. I did this over two years ago, and haven't seen a drop of water fall into my cabin. It'll take you a hour or two to do it thoroughly, but the end result is great. Let me see if I have any pics...
